Recently installed new SSD and had problems installing Win 7x64.Successfully installed Win 7x64 SP1 from USB flash drive. Then installed all windows updates,I ran SFC and some files could not be repaird. Some CBS files are corrupted.I installed Windows Hotfix KB 947821 today then ran updates and installed one important update KB 2719033. Ran SFC again and some files could not be repaired was the conclusion.I dont have any issues with the PC operation only the SFC corrupt file report.Ive seen similar posts here which suggest its a Windows SFC problem. Can you please confirm?

I'm surprised the System Update Readiness Tool didn't detect the manifest corruption, but at least SFC did.

Due to the extent of the problem, I suggest you do a repair install:

Hello Tom thanks for your help I did a clean install because I could not remove SP1 as I had run disk clean sometime earlier. After the install I ran windows updates but cannot install Internet Explorer 9 or SPI.I ran SFC /scannow and get Windows resource protection currupt files unable to fix. Seems I am at the begining I dont know where to go from here particularly as this is a clean install, any advice would be appreciated

Hi robbo,

Let's have a look:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Tom

Hello Tom,since my last post I ran win 7 upgrade and when completed ran winows updates but each time system crashed.I followed your instructions to run SFC \scannow again and its says no violations. Here is the cbs log I just ran

Hi robbo,

Your CBS log confirms there are no problems. Could you clarify what you mean by 'win 7 upgrade'? Do you mean Windows Update or Windows Anytime Upgrade?

I ran the Windows 7 upgrade from my installation CD.Then because updates crashed I posted you and ran sfc /scannow and posted the CBS logs to you.Since then have run windows updates and have system crash again after 80 installs

Hi robbo,

When you say 'after 80 installs', are they successful installs or install attempts? Are you having any problems at the minute?

Tom

Hello Tom I have successfully updated my Win 7 x64 upgraded install form windows 7 Install CD.The problem Im having now is being unable to update 5 updates offered which (includes SP1).I am getting Error code 80073712 and 8024200D.I have also installed windows readiness tool and tried to install KB976932x 64 stand alone installation. The readiness tool runs but KB976932 install fails.I have again run SFC and there are no integrity violations, see cbs log attached.I am well and truely stuck now.I would appreciate any advice as this is day 3 now.

Hi robbo,

Your current CBS log only shows your positive SFC results, so we will need to have a look at the archived logs:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

For any update failing with 0x8024200D, can you download it from the Microsoft Download Centre (using Internet Explorer) and install it manually. Make sure you download the x64 version of the update :)

Tom

Tom, when I right click on the logs folder and select copy nothing appears on the desktop.I still have the last CBSlog & zip file folders on my desktop which Ihave upload earlier?

Hi robbo,

You have to paste it on the Desktop before it will appear :) Delete any CBS logs on your Desktop first.

Tom
