Hi,
First post here, I have a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit setup that was initially throwing an error about a missing ole32.dll file, and the Windows Feature screen would come up blank. I followed a lot of troubleshooting threads, and that got me running "sfc /scannow", then "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scanhealth". When I started, there were quite a few errors, and by running these tools and finding various KB packages, I was able to work it way down to just a few. Most of the errors left are related to VirtualPC, so I went to Windows Features, which now populates the selections, but when I unselect VirtualPC it doesn't uninstall. One of the missing files I was searching on is "Microsoft-Windows-VirtualPC-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~nb-NO~7.1.7600.16393.mum" and .cat, and the only hit I got was that same file name being shown in the example of a log file in niemero's Tutorial thread here on Sysnative! So with the excellent guidance of that Tutorial, and through the use of SFCfix, I'm ready to post my data here in hopes of getting it resolved.

So I've been working down the number of missing manifest, mum, and cat files by finding the relevant KB's, and running sfc, dism, and SFCfix. I'm kind of stuck at this point, and this is my CheckSUR.log

Binary Version 6.1.7601.24499

They appear to be related to VirtualPC and language packs. Many reference 7.1.7601.17514, which I understand to be the level of Win7 SP1, I downloaded windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe, extracted it, unzipped the cab files within, and searched through it extensively, but could not find any of the files. I did the same with my Win7 Pro SP1 install dvd, and that also did not contain any of the missing files. Is there a KB package for re-installing VirtualPC (i.e. Windows KP Mode) as it comes with Win7 Pro? Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Woohoo! CheckSUR.log is now clean of all errors except for those avast related ones' that have "Error deleting winners map value." Can I ignore them?
In an older Avast support forum thread someone said they had the same errors, support person recommended doing a Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall->Repair of their antivirus software, which I did, but it didn't fix it.
Great.
To create a fix for the Avast items please do following.
Provide the Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop. Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again. Note: If you find that you need to reboot and are unable to because this is a server then try Option#2 below.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to Filedropper or WeTransfer and just provide the link here. Option#2 (only if you are unable to follow the previous instructions)
Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
Now right-click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Filedropper or One Drive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.
You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBak program now.

Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop: 64-bit:Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
Press the Fix button.
The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.
I ran it and a message window came up saying it fixed it, but it saved a Fixlog.txt file that was empty. So I downloaded fixlist.txt and reran it again. This time there was a non-empty Fixlog.txt, which is attached.
- "sfc /scannow" resulted with a "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
- "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scanhealth" produced a CheckSUR.log with "No errors detected"
- "SFCfix.exe" had "No corruptions were detected" and the SFCfix.txt is attached.
I believe everything is fixed, and I really do appreciate all of your help, Thank you!!!
Your welcome.
Follow the instructions below to cleanup the tools and logfiles used in this thread.
Rename the file FRST64.exe to uninstall.exe and run it. This will remove all files and folders created by FRST and the tool itself.
Reboot the machine to complete.
Remove the tool SFCFix.exe and it's log files manually.
