Hello,

I have a Win 2022 Server I've been fighting with for the last few days that will not install the latest or any other CU since its last update in January 2023.

I've run though the normal things to try an fix the problem and now I'm all out of ideas.
  1. I've run a SFC Scan, everything comes back normal and finds no issues.
  2. Ive run DISM on Restore Health and that also shows no issues.
  3. Ive run the component scanner list on this site, also shows no issues.
I'm really hoping that you will be able to help me here its still driving me mad

Thanks a lot

Sorry for the bump, its September update time now and this server is still creating me problems. If its looking like a lost course, I will rebuild the server.

Thanks alot

Hi,

Please upload all the recent CBS log files after attempting to update.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.
  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.

Hi,

Please provide a copy of your COMONENTS hive as well.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

That's difficult to say, but this could be lack of free disk space, a memory related issue, system crash, power failure etc...

We'll need to replace a lot of registry keys, so after this fix Windows Update will fail again. But then the CBS will show the next corrupted registry key.
