Server 2019 Won't Update

Here's a description of what's going on. This server is currently running AD, DNS, DHCP and a file server. When I go to the event viewer, a query error displays stating "Microsoft-Windows-DCLocator/Debug | The system cannot find the file specified. One of the errors stats "Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP Error Code:0x80070005". Another error seems to be linked to reverse DNS. I managed to fix this error once before and am not sure if it's caused by all of the other errors because the reverse dns entries are still appearing. The error code for that one is 0x801c001d.

Also, when I open the start menu there are no icons displayed. Just blank boxes where the icons used to appear. Some domain computers are also having issues opening excel files. They have to open Excel first, then open the file for it to work.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

This looks better, so please attempt to update again and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi,

The CBS logs are clean, which update (KB number) failed and what error message do you see into the settings screen?
