Hi.
I've a Server 2019 that it's impossible to update. I tried Windows Update or manually update with no success.
I tried to update from version 1809 (17763.17) to 1809 (177633.4252) and gives me 0x800f0950 error. Another error happens if I try to install any cumulative update (0x80240007).
I've done SFC /scannow (result: Protección de recursos de Windows encontró archivos dañados, pero algunos no se pudieron reparar.) DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth (result: El almacén de componentes puede repararse). DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth (result: Error: 0x800f0950).
Please help! I'm desperate.
Thanks.

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here, if so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Thanks. I didn't get an e-mail notification of your reply (hence the delay in me responding to your post), so looks like I'm going to have to check manually in future, which may introduce some delays.

Checking out your COMPONENTS hive now, may take me a while, will get back to you ASAP.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and also save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

  • Click Search button and type Command Prompt
  • From the results, right click on the Command Prompt icon, and select Run as administrator
  • A Command Window will open.
  • Copy paste the command below into it, then press Enter
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Once DISM has finished running ...
    • Please attach your ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log ... to your next reply.
  • If the file is too large, upload it to a file sharing service, and post me the link.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Need to see your CBS.log file as well.

Please try updating your server.

If successful please let me know.

If not, please post me the CBS.log file created after the update attempt has completed.

Hi.
Sorry for the delay.
The server is successfully updated. Thanks so much!
It is possible to know about the problem???

Sure.

You just had a few missing/corrupted files, which I replaced with the appropriate files from a VM I'd set up.

The files concerned were ....

C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-t..rvices-registryapis_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_none_9f6cbc09ae85db4a\regapi.dll
C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-onecore-a..nmodel-datatransfer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.107_none_9edf8a39d6b9ed67\f\windows.applicationmodel.datatransfer.dll
C:\Windows\WinSxS\msil_mmcex.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_es-es_15cf63ad9f3ecdb6\MMCEx.Resources.dll
C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.interop.security.azroles_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_none_0858d40438671556\Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles.dll
C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-t..enseserver-tlsbrand_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_none_3f5a01e7dbc22676\tls_branding_config.xml
C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-t..enseserver-lrwizdll_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_none_f5101f628983b202\LServer_PKConfig.xml
C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_dual_netv1x64.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.1_none_9bd60253cb57ebfe\v1q63x64.sys

.... please note that these are specific only to this particular problem, and there are other possible problems that could have given the same error code. Similar indications can occur when related Registry keys get corrupted, which is why I asked for a copy of your COMPONENTS hive to check that wasn't the case here.

Glad to hear you're now updated. I'll mark this topic as solved then, and then close it.
