Hi!

We have a Server 2019 that has had a lot of issues.
It started with the fact that the service Delivery Optimization could not start. We got this in the event viewer:
The Delivery Optimization service terminated with the following service-specific error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
After a lot of searching I found out that it was due to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20" was missing from the register. I took the keys from another server and now the service could start and Windows Update started working with downloading patches. I think we managed to get an install of patches after this according to our internal case.

But next time the server was not accepting any new patches again. We ran DISM and found a bunch of broken files, so I did some DISM repairs with other servers as the source and repaired a bunch of files until we no longer had any errors from the DISM. But we still seem to have issues getting the cumulative patches installed correctly.

Its been a while since the last installation attempt but the errors we ran into are the following:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0988: 2023-11 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 for x64-based Systems (KB5032196).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070490: 2023-11 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 for x64-based Systems (KB5032196).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0985: Security Update for Windows (KB5032196).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024001E: 2023-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.7.2 and 4.8 for Windows Server 2019 for x64 (KB5032337).

We tried both installing through Windows Update and with downloading the files manually.

Its now gotten to a point where I am out of ideas and have not had time to actively work on this for a month, so hoping I can get some assistance here in where to go next.

Hi,

Please provide a copy of the COMPONENTS hive to look at.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Thanks, please open an elevated command prompt and run the following commands. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a %systemroot%\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-errorreportingcore_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17763.4840_none_6dd1ace0d7d90416 > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"
