Hi

I tried to apply windows update KB5031362 to a server and it appeared to work:

Event Log:
Initiating changes for package KB5031362. Current state is Staged. Target state is Installed. Client id: WindowsUpdateAgent.

Windows update Security Update for Windows (KB5031362) requires a computer restart to complete the installation. (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\ictadmin\Downloads\windows10.0-kb5031362-x64_d5547372d929a0cfcd12559f75d03507ce6c5d8b (1).msu" ")

Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB5031362)" was successfully installed. (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\ictadmin\Downloads\windows10.0-kb5031362-x64_d5547372d929a0cfcd12559f75d03507ce6c5d8b (1).msu" ")

however after a reboot it says this

Package KB5031362 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80073712.

i have tried the usual stuff

disable updates
delete contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
reboot 2 times
try update again does not work

tried
dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
100% complete no component store corruption detected

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
No Componet Store Corruption detected

Ran ComponentsScanner.exe it found 1 corruption in the Components Hive file attached

Hi,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Step 1. Download

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Reboot the server and download

ComponentsScanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click ComponentsScanner.exe and select "Run as administrator", click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop called ComponentsScanner.txt.
