[SOLVED] Server 2016 failing to install the 2022-12 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5021235) with error 0x800f0900

Hello, got a small number of Server 2016 VMs (Windows Server 2016 Standard, Version 1809 OS Build 14393.5501) failing to install the 2022-12 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5021235) with the same Error 0x800f0900

sfc /scannow reports 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.'

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth reports Error: 0x800f081f.

I've also tried the above dism restorehealth command using the Windows Server 2016 ISO as the source and using the Windows folder of another Server 2016 device (clean) as the source, but both failed.

Output from ComponentsScanner.exe and CBS log folder attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.

• Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
• Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
• Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

• SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
• Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
• Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
