I really could use some help here. I've got a 2012 r2 standard box running RDS. This was setup was inherited. Within a week the internet on the box failed and my RMM + webroot stopped reporting. I can ping and get DNS resolution just fine and the local LAN works perfectly. Chrome works fine for browsing all websites. Windows update works. IE won't work and any software that relies on the internet for reporting home will not work. SFC comes back clean although it was corrupted at first. I've downloaded a 2012 image and mounted it and tried to run the DISM restore, but it fails when using the local source or the online source. I get error 0x800F0906 - the source files could not be downloaded.

Thanks.

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and type in cmd.
2. After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
3. Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt:

reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS

4. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
5. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
6. Copy and paste 6.3.9600.17842 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
7. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.

Hi!

These files (utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json) are falsely reported as corrupt by SFC. Microsoft is aware of this situation and they said that this issue will be fixed in a later update. These files aren't corrupt and they won't affect anything on your system. You can leave it be without any consequences. For more information, see the Microsoft Article below.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3022345

This update contains the following files that are occasionally updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:

telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
utc.app.json

The two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or actual corruption on a device running this update, and a later service update will resolve this issue.

Therefore, these files aren't responsible for your current issues.

Understood. So what's the next step in figuring out this internet problem? I've explored everything I can think of and I'm a seasoned IT vet. First time I've been stumped in a long while. Short of a repair install of 2012 which I'd like to avoid at all costs, I'm hoping you have a trick up your sleeve. Considering the internet worked and just bombed out one night it almost feels like ESET (which I removed) caused this or there was some system corruption.

I'll add that we have 4 other servers on prem and those are fine. All had ESET removed.

As I am primarily a Windows Update expert and have cleared you system, I would recommend that you post a thread here where the expert for networking issues may have more expertise than myself in networking:
