Hello everyone, we have been having some issues with getting updates to install on a Windows 2012 (non R2) server. The logs sometimes seem to say they install but when we look the patches still aren't installed. One error i see in the logs is the 80073712 error although I know there are often other errors that point more to the problem.

Can someone help me with figuring out why these updates won't install?

Thanks

Neal

My apologies, I had previously run SFC and it hadn't had any errors but I didn't run DISM. I have just run both and the results are below. SFCFix came back clean too.

SFC - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
DISM - 0x800f081f - The restore operation failed. Either teh repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired.

Not sure if this is going to be something fixable with the DISM error. I did run it again pointing to actual installation media and wasn't able to get it to work either.

Below is the link to the CBS folder contents.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks so much.

Hi!

That's really strange. According to the logs you submitted DISM is fine.

Can you attempt updating again and attach CBS.log after the failure.

Thanks for the reply. It is really strange, I run Windows Update and it looks like it completes fine and asks for a reboot. The server reboots but when I check for patches, they are still missing again. The strange part is I don't see hte normal installing updates during shutdown/startup that I am used to but I don't work on a lot of 2012 servers so I am not sure how normal that is.

Below is the link for the latest CBS.log file. I ran the update a few times with the same results.

Thanks

Hi there, sorry for the delay but I was trying to get it to show up again. It looks like that is the alert I was getting before I ran the other commands but it seems like since running those, it isn't happening anymore and I am just having the issues with the patches not installing.

I think at this point we are going to just look at rebuilding the server onto a new one as this is pretty old (2012) and I don't think it is worth spending a ton more time troubleshooting the issue. To me, it looks like more OS level corruption than just a Windows update problem even though that is how it is manifesting itself.

Thank you for your assistance with this but let's not spend any more time working on this issue.

Thanks
