Hi there! I believe I have the exact same problem as this previous thread:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...lems-applying-2018-05-server-2008-r2-sp1.html

I see the file link that was posted in that thread in question is still live, but I'm brand new here and a little worried about deploying this on my production server " no questions asked ".

Could you perhaps show me how to find the necessary missing component(s) and show me how to create my own valid update .cab ? ( after, of course, verifying my sanity ).

I have plenty of healthy neighboring 2008R2 servers to pull it from.

The relevant error from my CBS.LOG follows:

Thank you! This server hasn't been able to install any of the cumulative updates going back for many months now, and I've tried the usual technet update fixes.

My wild guess is that whatever package is supposed to contain this missing exe fails to get cleaned out / reindexed / and re-downloaded by the usual fixes, making me suspect there's another index file that the mainstream fixed don't mention or perhaps it's been merged into winsxs and the OS simply trusts it to be correct ( even if it clearly isn't ).

Anyway, thank you in advance for any assistance! Even good links.

PJ

p.s. I understand you guys may prefer to follow process and have me submit the usual results of SFC, etc. Please let me know if that's a must.

Hi!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
 5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Looks good!

I have to wait to restart until this evening, but I'll report back on results.
