Hi Guys,

I need some help where all security updates fails to install after KB4343900 this was the last update successfully applied.

On the CBS.log I get the following error when trying to install November Cumulative security updates.

2018-12-10 14:44:52, Info CBS Failed to find file: wow64_microsoft-windows-i..etexplorer-optional_31bf3856ad364e35_11.2.9600.19080_none_85941717f70e0e28\iexplore.exe [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

Attached is the CBS log file.

I have tried adding the missing files using the SFCfix.exe created by niemiro, but for one or another reason I can't see what will still cause the problem.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Thanks this installed successfully and did not require a reboot.

May I go ahead and try and install the KB I have problems with ?

Thank you so much for the assistance. It installed, may I ask as a curious engineer that would like to know how you know which update to install, how did you gather the required information to see which update will resolve the problem.

This will help us so much with future problems.

Will you be able to provide some steps on what you looked for in the cbs log ?

I looked for any errors, and I found the line that said: "Failed to find file", based on the data listed there (and my experience), I tracked down the file to an update that contained the missing file and forcibly installed it via DISM, because it was installed in a partial state and therefore normal install would not work on your system.

Once that "took" the system was able to receive the failing update normally.
