I have been following the thread by“Cowboyjake “ ref the above error.

My error is identical, but my machineis a Desktop running “Windows 7, 32 bit”
I have followed the thread to the end,(Installed and run Checksure, renamedSoftware distribution but unlike “Cowboyjake” it did not fix the problem andKB2984972 still does not install.
Do you have any further ideas?

Thank you for your reply, I have run SURT, here is the log. I had run it previously and it fixed some errors, I deleted the old logs to start afresh.

There are a few corruptions present here, what we are going to do first is fix up the CBS MUM/CAT files that are appearing as corrupt. Then take a look at the corrupt Payload Files.

SURT Package replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click Here to download Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:

  2. Press Enter

OK, and thanks for all this info. A bit tied up at the moment (half term with the grandchildren) , but will work on it as soon as I can.
 
On line 1, "Click Here to download Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop" . Clicking on "Here" gives this page unavailable. Tried to find file on packs.zip Google without success.

Could this be the same as " bftaa.zip "?

OK, got and ran packs.zip, and transferred files as requested. Ran checksur again, (logs below)

Ran scannow which completed and posted a log into windows/logs/CBS for the correct time. Tried to run cmd to transfer log to desktop but it did not appear.
Unable to open the log (Access denied, despite changing security to "full control")

How can I copy this log to this reply?

As for the SFC results please do this.

Export CBS folder

  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.
