Hi

Laptop wouldn't boot up (black screen with white Arrow , Arrow moves). So I tried save mode, I get in, disabled all extra services and startup items.

Rebooted in normal model: received a message to check the harddisk (chkdsk), canceled it.

some services and startup items enabled back, group by group to find the cause why laptop wouldn't boot up. Finally all services and startup items are loaded and laptop still starts up. While rebooting everytime I enabled a service/startup itme, I received that message chkdsk , but alway cancelled. Also after enabling certain services /startup items, I receive error messages about these programs ( structure is damages, run ckdsk, , failed to load, ... )

Then I rebooted and let chdsk to his thing (3 steps) and rebooted again: no errors anymore. rebooted again: no chkdsk message anymore.

Then I runned sfc scannow: some errors could not be deleted.

Running sfcfix, it found one error but the messages after sfcfix finished said that is something not to worry about (about printers configuration).

Hi haramo and welcome back to Sysnative. If you still need assistance I will need your CBS.log. The link above doesn't allow me to download anything. Thanks.

No error. It brings me to dropbox and just says that nothing is there for me to download.

The good news is I was able to retrieve it through SendSpace. I'll review and report back.

OK, this should get the corruption resolved. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Good. SFCFix should have completed without errors now. Let's do one final check.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Dear BrianDrab

I'm sorry , but after a couple of days, I tried sfc scannow again to see if laptop is still corruption free, but there were some damaged files found and could not be repaired.

How do I have to interpreet these errors that are coming back? hard drive failure? although crystaldiskinfo reports that disk is ok, Dell tool that I let run in windows said the same about the harddisk.

These errors may be harmless. There is a current update that is causing these. To be sure I need you to zip and attach your C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. You may need to copy to your desktop first.

As suspected the corruptions that are left are benign and a known issue. They can safely be ignored.

This update contains the following two manifests that are occasionally updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:

telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

The two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or corruption on a device that is running this update, and this issue will be fixed in a later service update.
