[SOLVED] Running Windows 8.1 - no possibility to update to Windows 10

Hello from Austria

I had to save the data of a nearly defective HDD and wanted to update to Windows 10. Unfortunately no chance.

The computer is running Windows 8.1.
An attempt to update to Windows 10 always aborts without a clear error message.

I have already tried all repair options (DISM - Restorehealth online and offline) and much more.

Important is perhaps: I have copied / rescued this system from a defective HDD. While copying I had errors, but the system (Windows 8.1) runs normally.

Step #2 - Run SFC Scan

I am getting an error message.

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it

do you still need the log or should I try an update to windows 10 now?

Hi,

Ok try the Windows 10 upgrade. If you have any 3rd party Antivirus solution uninstall it and also make sure the machine have plenty of free space on the C: drive.
 
I have tried the Mediacreation tool, the "old" Upgrade adivisor and a usb stick.

Unfortunately no success. :-(
nothing is installed except Office 2013 and the synaptic touchpad.

The upgrade advisor says Error 0x80004005

the other two always just "error during installation".
i have also tried disabling most of the devices.

does the phanther log do anything?

....or i give up and have to install "clean"
 
If you only have Office 2013 installed doing a clean installation of Windows 10 should not be difficult.

Try to locate the following files:
C:\Windows\Panther\Setupact.log
C:\Windows\panther\setuperr.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.app.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

Some may not exist. Copy the files to the Desktop, zip them and attach the zip file to your post.

bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup

What is the result?
