[SOLVED] Resource protection unable to repair corrupt files

Hello everyone,

I was having a terrible time with updates and followed the steps in the guide regarding solving that problem and it was solved.

I went back to look at a CBS log created before coming to this site.

There are a number (I didn't count) of entries stating that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

I didn't attach it because I think you might want a fresh log and/or ask that I run an additional or different diagnostic software.

My system is Windows 7 64 bit with Service Pack 1 and all important updates installed through yesterday.

Hello and welcome back!

If you'd like I can take a look at the log.

SFC Scan

Click on the Start

button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Note: If the file is too large to attach, please right-click cbs.txt, point to Send to, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder and upload the cbs.zip file instead.

Looks like there are a few corrupt files. Let's replace them.

SFCFix Script

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

Wait for this to finish before you continue

copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
A window will open showing the folder Packages
Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

Can you confirm that the .cat and .mum files were copied from the .zip into C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ ?

Yes, before I ran SURT I went to C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and opened it. In fact, that is why I asked my question of 7/21 about using files beginning W8IP.

I saved that package and the instructions on how to use them. I will download SURT again and run it again. Hopefully, whatever gremlin prevented your fix from working right has gone back to where ever they come from and everything will work.

I'll post back ASAP
