Hello everyone,
First, my pc specs:
Lap Model: HP elitebook 8460p
Processor: Intel i7-2720QM
Ram Mem: 8GB ram
HDD: 2 WDC - one 500 and one 750 both 7200RPM
WIFI: Intel Centrino ultimate-n 6300 AGN
I am using this pc as my main studio workstation for music production.
The problems were always there at some level, until a month a go, I used an Edirol FA-66 firewire audio interface(Connected through PCI extension). When my project got a little bit more complexed or when I tried to enlarge the sample rate above 41000/48000 - that's when I started to experience audio drop outs and crackling.
I used LatencyMon & Latency Checker to Identify the source and it was mostly ndis.sys. So after a while monitoring the problem I simply tried to close the WiFi adapter whenever I used Ableton and also kept sample rate low at 44100. I figured, It was a combination of the Intel WiFi, and the Soundcard that is connected through the PCI extension.
So Anyways,
A month ago I upgraded to Focusrite Forte Interface. Everything was working fine for a while until 2 days ago, I updated windows to 8.1, and also AMD catalyst driver, Intel Chipset Drivers, and Intel Rapid Storage Drivers.
Right now, I'm experiencing audio dropouts on relatively "light" Ableton projects, Utilizing only simple Synth and very low Samples (meaning low HD activity). So I started Monitoring again. For start it according to LatencyMon it was USBPort.SYS- after looking in Device Manager - Universal Controllers -> I figured it was the Intel Chipset controlled ports that were using that driver. I switched the soundcard to a different USB port and connected to the Intel USB's only Wireless mouse and USB hub and things changed.
I used the tutorial here on sysnative How To Diagnose And Fix High DCP Latency.... Install windows performance assement and used Xperf.
When I opened the trace File it is clear that the driver that causes the issue is WDF0100.sys, After it of course is the USBPORT.SYS.
I've attached Sysnative jcgriff2 BSOD File Collection app zip and the Xperf etl Zip.
Any leads on solving this problem is highly appriciated! I'm so frustrated - I keep investing my only money on gear(Only to have a standart stable work enviroment) and the problem keeps comming back! It's really interrupting my Producing process and I'm starting to loss my trust on laptop mobile workstations.
Hoping for someones help ! Thanks guys.
