Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

[h=2][/h] Hey there,
first of all: sorry for my english I am from Germany. I have got latency issues since i bought my new netbook and it is driving me cracy... i searched for solutions for about 10 days and still cant fix it. In the end i found your realy nice guide to fix the problem but I got to a point where I had some troubles following the guide: at the part where I should tipe in the command: "xperf -on DiagEasy" I am always getting the massage:" - nt kernel logger - access is denied. (0x5)."
what is the problem? can you please help me, I am so frustrated you would not believe it :banghead:.

My System:
Acer Aspire One D270,
CPU: Intel Atom N2600 ( 1,6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
Memory: 2 GB DDR3
Graphic goes over the CPU and is called: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 Series
Sound: Realtek

OS: Windows 7 Proffesional 32 Bit SP1

Please Help me!!!

Thank you!!

Welcome to Sysnative!

I have an early Aspire One netbook, in my case it was the Ethernet driver/hardware causing high DPCs; disabling it in Device Manager and working with the wireless connection only fixed it for me. Try it?

hey there, first of all: thanks for the quick answer... i already installed all the drivers so i am not sure, is the "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller" the Hardware you are talking about?

ahh and i forgot to mention... i dont have the latency problems all the time... only sometimes they go mad and then its suddently all good again... specially when i am streaming music or something simmilar... I also noticed that when i am installing drivers or I am doing updates on windows i dont get any latency issues at all... just for a bit more information from my side ;).. you had a simmilar problem?

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

Yes, that would be the same device - but your description does not match what I witnessed with mine (before W7 SP1); I had regular high DPC pulses even when offline or with zero 'net traffic.

If yours only happens when streaming, perhaps it's disk I/O? Security software - even old and uninstalled; something attached to networking - maybe a proxy or VPN service in the background?

On the original xPerf problem/question, I'm really not sure - does 0x5 mean file not found? Or does the 'access denied' message mean that you must run the CMD windows as Administrator?

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

I deactivated the Ethernet driver/hardware but I am still getting every now and again these latency peaks... :(

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

ehhm i think you understood me wrong...
I dont get them when I am streaming... it just looks like its more when i am streaming... i even got them when i formated C: and installed windows fresh with no updates no internet no drivers no nothing... just windows and the program I am using to check for peaks...

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

about the question earlier:
Or does the 'access denied' message mean that you must run the CMD windows as Administrator?
That was it.. no i can go on with the guide.. I hope it works ;) ^^

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

now i got another error: after typing in the next step of the guide: "xperf -d %userprofile%\Desktop\trace.etl" with filling in my username ofc.^^ I am getting the error: "xperf: error: Merge ETL: The system can not find the given path (0x3)" ( sorry if not 100% correct, had to translate it my self :D )...

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

the strange thing about it is, that it actually seem to create that file even if i cant see it... because always when i type in the command: "xperf -on DiagEasy" twice in a row it tells me on the second try that it cant create another one cause there is already one existing... untill i type in the next step: "xperf -d %userprofile%\Desktop\trace.etl" ... after that the file seems to be gone cause i can create one again with the first command... realy strange... I hope you know a solution...

Re: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA ?!?!

You don't have to use that specific directory. If you want, you can specify any other directory besides%userprofile%\Desktop\to dump the capture at. You don't have to use trace.etl as the name of the file either, just make sure it at least has the .etl extension in it.

Also, you may wanna use the following instead of DiagEasy for what may be a more appropriate capture for this:

Code:
xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+PROFILE+DRIVERS -stackwalk Profile

It may end up creating a folder with stuff in it as well as the .ETL capture file, both in the same directory. You'll want to zip up both the file and the folder to provide us. If it's too big, upload to like Mirrorcreator.com or some other similar site.
