re: Antivirus Removal Tool for Windows 8 - from the Tutorial Forum

Hi, I'm not sure where to ask this question, and I didn't think it was a good idea to ask in the Tutorial Forum... I'm wondering about running the tool that was just posted there by jcgriff (Feb 9/14). When I uninstalled Norton on my laptop a few years back, there were still remnants of the antivirus left on my computer because when I did a search for anything 'Norton related', the files were still there. I ran the Norton removal tool, and it got rid of those files.

With the Windows 8 computer, though; it came preinstalled with McAfee. I uninstalled that through 'Programs and Features', and then searched for any files that might be leftover by typing 'McAfee' at the Start screen. Nothing was found. Does this mean McAfee is completely gone from this computer? Or should I run the tool anyway?

Also if I run the tool, it won't uninstall Windows Defender, which I want to keep on this computer, will it? Thanks.

Run the McAfee removal tool, McAfee is much easier to remove then Norton and some others but it worth making sure.
And no it won't remove Defender.

Thanks for your quick reply Wrench. I ran the McAfee removal tool, and yes, there were still files left over from the previous uninstall. :thumbsup2:
