im new here, came across this site while looking into issues i'm having and see there are some knowledgeable people here.

i am not sure what section this issue should go in, feel free to move if i'm not in the proper section. its a completely new build so i'm thinking hardware, but cant be sure.

my specs are

i5 6600k
asus maximus hero VIII motherboard
samsung 128GB 951 m.2 SSD running in pcie x4 in the m.2 connector <--- windows 10 installed in UEFI
samsung 840 evo 1 TB SSD
WD black 3TB harddrive
500GB 2.5inch drive from an old security DVR (for redundancy of important files) no raid, no windows storage spaces. i copy files myself.
4 X 4 GB corsair vengence ddr4 2400 ram
evga 980ti sc+ video card.

i get random freezes that can last up to 10-15 seconds while doing something as simple as watching a web video, or playing agar.io, a browser based game. if during the soft lockup i try to open something else like task manager it will hard freeze where things stop responding until the system recovers. i have also had these freezes happen while playing metal gear solid 5. i have tried reinstalling windows a couple times. i have ran ram checker which passed. i do notice a lot of errors (computer just froze while typing this i clicked cortana to look up the errors) in event viewer, and there are so many i don't know where to start. I was thinking a driver was causing the lockup, but last night i ran a sfc /scannow and it said there were corruptions that could not be resolved.

at this point i am lost. driver, bios setting, hardware, windows 10, the new m.2 ssd drive, a combination of issues? computer is very fast when its not having a hiccup. my old i5 2500k build never froze up like this.

where do i go from here?

its a completely new build
How new? And has this been happening since day one of this build?

sfc /scannow and it said there were corruptions that could not be resolved.
Please follow these instructions.

just over a month old.

thanks for that link. ill do that when i have time.

think i found the main issue with the freezing. i went into services/processes. and killed everything not windows related. most of it was from the asus drivers and applications disc that came with my motherboard. ever sense i have not had a freeze, knock on wood. next i guess ill have to narrow down the exact program that was causing it then raise hell with asus. am going to wait a few days before i go through that trouble to make sure the hangs are truly gone.

Yeah, I never install from disks that come with hardware because they always want to install all sorts of extras most users will never need or use. Windows will detect the hardware and install the necessary drivers for you - with few exceptions. From there, you can upgrade to the latest. In the rare event Windows does not detect the device, I drill down into those disks to find the driver only - or I visit the hardware maker's site and find the driver. Visiting the site will also get you the latest driver.

Note that printer makers are notorious for wanting to foist entire suites of bloated fluff we don't need on to our systems. So again, I visit the site to download just the necessary drivers.

I learned over a many years of building and tweaking that some of the utilities from every motherboard manufacturer have issues depending on the version and the hardware/OS it's installed on. So generally speaking, I stay away from nearly all of them unless it's the main major suite like Asus AI, or MSI Command Center. Even then I usually don't install them I simply use the bios and then some extras like MSI afterburner, Prime95 (for burn in), CoreTemp and that's it.
