So here are the steps I have done so far

my computer was offline for several months because I was moving, when i finally got it online there were about 4 gigs of windows updates

On the third run of various updates, my computer hung at Installing 1 of XX. I forced shut it down after 10 hours of the hourglass moving, but no noticeable hard drive activity.

I rebooted and ran Windows update troubleshooting tool. it said there was an unfixable corruption.

I ran sfc /scannow which said it also couldn't fix the problem

i ran dism which also failed

then i came across your site. I ran SFCFIX and it ran for almost 6 hours and said it repaired the problem. i checked the log and it said something about AMD being corrupt and successfully repaired.

I ran the windows update troubleshooting tool and it said it DID fix the problem this time

I thought everything was good so I rebooted. It installed one update on reboot and came back up without a problem.

So I then rebooted again and now I am back where i started, stuck at 1 of 22

My question at this point is there something I can do without forcing shut down? I dont have the logs because I am stuck at this screen.

My machine is a desktop but it has a RaID 5 and everytime I force shut it down it spends like 5 hours rebuilding the raid. Once i get the PC back on i can send the logs, though. But i am not sure how useful they will be considering they said it was successfully repaired and clearly there is still some problem.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately if it is stuck at this screen there is not much that can be done until the machine has restarted. SFC might not be able to repair the files, but we are pretty good at repairing this files at Sysnative :)

Once you back in please provide the following folder:
Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive
