Problems with the hard disk.

I'm not familiar with Hard Disk Sentinel, I tend to favor the diagnostics from the manufacturer.

Since your drive is a Seagate model, you can have a look at their diagnostic, called "Sea Tools". It comes in two varieties - you can try either or both. One is "for Windows" and one is "for DOS". You can view the guides for each before trying them. When running the tools, you can run the Quick Test first, and follow with the Extended Test next (or "full" test, or whatever the latest version of the program calls it). The Extended test will scan each and every sector on the drive, and offer to "spare" the bad sectors for you (it looks like your Hard Drive Sentinel program has already spared those 80 or so bad sectors).

In short: make backups of essential data (& perhaps a system image backup too, if you like) - just in case the drive is heading toward failure.

If the drive continues to generate bad sectors, at some point it will need to be replaced. If it is still under warranty, it might qualify for a free replacement. If out of warranty, don't worry - brand-new 1TB replacements are available for about $50.

Hard drives are easy to replace. Unique data that hasn't been backed up is not.

Test things a few times .... with a few days in-between: that should give you a decent picture of what's up.

[P.S. ... HD Sentinel's suggestion to check cables and connectors is something you can do: but in a laptop, the SATA connection is pretty simple (no cables or connectors other than the SATA connector on the motherboard) ... and a connector doesn't usually create bad blocks on the surface of the disk (hasn't happened in my experience)... So long as the SATA connector is snug and undamaged, that connector is likely OK]

My advise is to immediately backup the information from this hard disk and replaced it.

You have 83 bad this is really damaged it`s a wonder this still working.

I see the sentinel advise to change SATA cables please do so and test it again but still my opinion is this hard drive is damaged.

If you have still warranty the vendor will replace the hard drive but please bear in mind if you cause some physical damage this can be easily discovered :)

In case you are unable to save the important information from this hard drive I can suggest few workarounds.

Cheers,
Andy
