[SOLVED] Problems with installing Windows 10

Awesome :) Now we'll try once more to upgrade to Windows 10. We'll either use the Media Creation Tool with the first option (Upgrade this computer now), or the second option (Download an .iso) then mount the .iso and launch setup.exe.

OK now this was really weird(never happened before) attempted first option with media creation tool(upgrade now) it finished at creating media? and whatever comes next it just quit, off the screen quit,I thought it was going too restart or something, give an error, but it did nothing it just quit I waited awhile but nothing.it just quit.

Alright, then use the second option, which is to download the .iso on your system, mount it (you can use DEAMON Tools Lite for that), then launch the setup.exe in it.

OK, tried the second option got to making sure your ready to install(about 10min into) when the following error popped up modern setup host has stopped working windows is looking for a solution to the problem.

  • If you are being prompted with a Security Warning, allow it to go through;
  • Once the repair is complete, it'll ask you to restart your computer, please do it;

Alright, try to upgrade again, the same way you attempted before.

OK here's the thing went under Microsoft community help (not sure whose advice it was I just read it) They said I needed to go into C: windows system32 and look for msvcrt.dll (7.0.7601.21878) also, I don't have that # I have 7.0.7601.17744 (which they said is the wrong #) I need to transplant? 7.0.7601.21878 into the file(cmd prompt?) and I should have no more problems with downloading and/or installing win10.What do you think of this fix and how do you do it?

I think you asked me that question before and I told you that it was some kind of random fix, no? You shouldn't replace system files like that. This user is lucky that it worked for him, but it might be unique to his configuration.

All good. I'll be asking my colleagues if they have any ideas about what we could try regarding your issue since I'm about to run out of ideas.

Greetings, ok here's the thing, maybe it will help others, I am not sure if you are aware of this (I wasn't) some manufacturers have not "tested" all their products for Win 10 as was somewhat my case.Mine is a Dell Inspiron 560 which I was told was not "tested" so I contacted Dell and was told that's true but, it only refers to 32bit(I have a 64bit) and that I shouldn't be having any problems (lol) they told me too contact Microsoft (which I did) and so it goes.Anyway if you weren't aware of this maybe it can help others. If you have an older pc make sure it was "tested" by the manufacturer

Well according to the Dell drivers webpage for your desktop, officially, it only supports up to Windows 7 64-bit drivers, not even Windows 8 or 8.1.

You can. I installed Windows 10 in a VM (and I'm using VirtualBox) since the first TP release.

Not really. I always installed it like I installed other Windows versions on my VMs. Is it your first time using a Virtual Machine with VirtualBox or not? If not, just do as you usually do.
