I have been dealing with BSOD crashes these past few weeks and someone checked my logs and said there is a problem with my driver and that I had to reinstall it. So I uninstalled my NVIDIA driver and tried to reinstall it. However it didn't work, the installer gave me this message "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". So I ended up recovering the old driver I had deleted. Once I had it back, I tried one of the installers again and then it suddenly worked. So I just let it run and the installation was successful. However, I'm not sure if this was the right thing to do cause it's advised to uninstall before you reinstall a driver.

I went to my control panel to check the NVIDIA components and I found these 3:
-> the new driver I reinstalled
-> 2 components that are from my previous driver

What do I do?

Hi kat92. :welcome:
I think who wants to (try to) help you (like me), should know at least what OS and NVIDIA graphic card you are using.
I'll take and modify a bit some instructions made by BrianDrab:

Retrieve System Information
  1. Download Speccy portable - actual version 1.29.714 (click), unzip/decompress it and put it on your desktop.
  2. When the program opens, it will retrieve some information regarding your system.
  3. Once it's done, select the File menu and choose Publish snapshot. Answer Yes to the confirmation message.
  4. On the next screen that comes up, choose the Copy to Clipboard button and paste this link in your next reply.

Luckily there haven't been any crashes since I reinstalled my driver. The crashes which occurred were: "kernel security check failure" & "driver verifier detected violation" and usually happened when I opened Sony Vegas. Since these crashes happened my computer has gotten really slow + it takes a long time to start up windows + it takes FOREVER to shut down, definitely over 30 mins if not an hour. These issues haven't changed since I updated my driver and make me want to pull my hair out! I've ran the sfc command and it said it couldn't repair the issues, I then ran DISM RestoreHealth, but it was also unable to fix the issues. I have no idea what to do now!

Are you experiencing BSODs now (since the video driver update)?

Here's the system information you asked :) http://speccy.piriform.com/results/K...0Cf7Mbi6Ys3By7
I explained the problems I'm experiencing in the reply of jcgriff2 comment btw, if that helps you figuring out what's wrong with my system.

If you don't know how to check verifier settings, run the following command from a command prompt (it shouldn't matter if elevated or non-elevated) and post its result here:
Code:
verifier /querysettings > "%userprofile%\desktop\VerifierSettings.txt"

Speccy says: CPU Intel Core i7 @ 2.50GHz: 75 °C
Are you over-clocking your cpu?

On asus.com, the actual driver for W8.1 and GTX 850M is V9.18.13.3788, and this seems to be the driver actually installed on your PC.
