Hello,

I first posted on Windows Update forum for a related problem, but I have been redirected here because it all began with BSOD, which I already managed to work around, but maybe not the sysnative way… ;-)

If you want to read the story: Errors on installing KB4517389 and KB2267602 on Windows 10 Pro FR

SysnativeBSODCollectionApp was stuck Waiting for SystemInfo. But I zipped the SysnativeFileCollectionApp folder. Hope it has all you need to start.
  • OS - Windows 10 Pro French
  • x64 (64-bit)
  • Fresh install
  • I had an OEM version of Windows 7, then I installed Win 10 on a new SSD drive and managed to make it accepted as an upgrade from the Windows 7
  • Age of system (hardware): many years, but still fast enough since I installed an SSD
  • Age of OS installation: july 2016
  • CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz, 2801 MHz, 4 cœur(s), 4 processeur(s) logique(s)
  • Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
  • MotherBoard - Asus P7P55D-E
  • Power Supply - brand & wattage: will check if really needed
  • System Manufacturer: self assembled Desktop

Thank your for your help

There appears to be a number of errors within your event log too. Have you checked that everything is compatible with your upgrade? Could you also please clarify what you mean by a workaround?

I activated Driver Verifier and rebooted. Nothing special happened.

I also ran Malwarebytes antivirus, which found nothing.

Here is how it began and how the workaround I used.

I plugged an extra hard disk to erase it. Windows started to crash after this hard disk has been removed.

I got BSOD on boot, with error code 0xc000007b and a file name.

After several attempts, I finally installed a fresh Windows on a extra partition that was available. From there I tried to copy the file from the fresh system to the broken one and reboot. If the same file was still mentioned, I renamed it to .old and rebooted. Another file was bad and I continued the same way until Windows started to boot.

Then I had the mouse but no keyboard. By using the on screen keyboard, I reinstalled the keyboard software (its a wireless Laser 6000 v2).

By reinstalling the softwares which where causing errors, I got almost my box working as before. But still, Windows Update does not work, Windows Defender neither and I cannot reinstall those. I tried to reinstall Windows without loosing applications and settings by running setup.exe, but it seems to need a working Windows Update component, which is currently broken.

I didn't reinstall Acrobat 8 yet, thus the error in the event log, but it's a minor problem I can address later.

So, you want a BSOD ? I renamed the file system32\drivers\vmsProxy.sys.old to its original name. I rebooted and BSOD with error 0xc000007b on that file. This one (or one dependence) is obviously corrupted but non essential to boot if removed.

Then I rebooted on my fresh partition to see what happened. There is no Windows\Minidump on the faulty partition. Is there anything I can do before I rename the faulty file again to .old ?

I got BSOD on boot, with error code 0xc000007b and a file name.

That isn't a bugcheck code, however, it is a NTSTATUS code which corresponds to:

0xC000007B
STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_FORMAT
{Bad Image} %hs is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

It appears that your installation is corrupt. Have you ran any hard disk diagnostics tests?

Yes, I copied files from installation ISO and/or from freshly installed windows 10 on a free partition. This helped to boot, but some files are probably no longer in sync with the COMPONENTS hive. I also messed up with the WinSxs where I found some corrupted files which where supposed to be XML and where obviously not. I deleted them.

I did attempt a repair install but it didn't finish. At the end it reverted back to current install. I didn't write the error code, if any.

Short DST and Long test PASSED with Sea Tools for DOS 2.23

Could you attempt a repair install again and then note down any error message it provides?

You may need to back up any personal files to cloud storage or use an external USB drive, and completely format your HDD/SSD(s) and complete a full clean install of Windows.

If Driver Verifier is still running then please disable it by using the instructions in the original tutorial provided.

I did the repair install again. The result is :

I tried a second time after a clean boot, with the same result. Only Avast was running because I could not completely prevent it from running, but I disabled all protections before running the repair install.

My guess is that the component store and the WinSxS is broken. Windows update binaries and/or dependencies may as well be impacted. Hints in my post on Windows Update forum.

Thanks, I'll have to have a look into the error.

Google Translation:

Code:
We restored your PC to the state it was in just before you started the installation of Windows 10.

0x8007042B - 0x2000D
Installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA

I removed Avast in Safe Mode with their tool and did a repair install again.

Same result as Oct 15

Unfortunately, I would backup any personal files and then perform a clean install of Windows 10.
