Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance!

I have a Windows 7 64-bit golden image VM for Citrix that has some strange symptoms. I'm suspecting this started happening after Windows Updates were applied but can't be sure.
Windows Updates and Software still installs ok and all applications seem to run ok
CheckSUR and SFCFix logs seems clean
Please find CBS folder
CBS 21-06

But seeing these other issues:

Can't run sfc /scannow

47963

Can't add printers
47964

Software Center won't load (can fix this with a repair but then the issue reoccurs with another Software install or reboot)

Hi jcgriff2,

Thanks for your reply.
Reinstalling Windows or restoring to an earlier disk from backup was going to be my last resort. As there are a number of applications, customizations and Windows Updates I would need to apply if I did this.
I was hoping there was something I could try before doing that.

Kind Regards,

Cindy

Hi!

Please retry running SFC Scan and as soon as you get the error, zip and attach CBS.log.

You may need to copy it to your Desktop before you will be able to do that.

Hi Cindy. . .

I know that reinstalling is a pain.

Is this a virtual version of Windows 7?

Thanks. . .

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I went back to a previous vdisk to see if this would help but there appears to still be issues.
This is a VMWare VM that PXE boots to a PVS vdisk golden image that I make updates to before deploying to other VMs
I'm having issues with 3 Windows updates not installing. But the issues I reported in this post originally are probably related to the same underlying issue
I have tried installing them through Software Centre and manually by downloading the KBs from the Microsoft Catalog. They appear to install and then I get prompted to reboot. So no error message after install.
Then the following occurs and the updates never install properly.

I did a reset of Windows Installer which might have fixed some original issues I mentioned in this post:
I can run sfc /scannow without original 'Windows Resource Protection error'
I can also launch Software Centre without errors
I can also add printers without errors

But just need to make sure all Windows updates install including the 3 mentioned
The other strange thing is that Software Centre thinks they are installed when they aren't

Hopefully this is what you want - this is the CBS folder after trying to install KB4474419 (no SURT run).
CBS 8-7 Take 2
If that's not what you want please let me know. In previous post from today I ran SURT and attached CBS.
Also I have managed to install KB4503259
So its just the other two I need to get installed. Thanks :)

Thanks again

Setup.api

So Software Center has detected the installs still need completing again. Si install seems to complete. The system reboots and reverts the updates. So its a bit of a loop at the moment.

I can see Hyper-V elements enabled. Please disable Hyper-V and retry. By the way, what does Windows say about updates, not any third-party software. Belarc is especially unreliable when it comes to this.

Hi again, I can't see Hyper-V enabled anyway in the features list.

So the update appears to install successfully and the prompt to restart comes up. But the update doesn't complete and reverts the update.

Can you boot up now?

If yes, do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Yes I deleted the disk version I tried the 'Upgrade' on so I can boot up now
Please find attached files

Hello again, I ran the SURT again and for some reason I was able to install KB4474419.
But still can't get KB4503292. It still appears to install then the changes are reverted.
Please find CBS folder directly after this happens

Hi!

I see the issue. Please do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
6. Attempt updates again and attach CBS.log if any fail.
