Hello there fellow Sysnatians.
I have in my possession my sons ASUS W8 netbook. When it boots, at the bottom of the ASUS logo screen it says, "Preparing Automatic Repair". After sitting on the blue screen for about a minute it goes straight to the Choose an Option screen.
I am able to get to the Command Prompt and have ran chkdsk c:\r and sfc /scannow a couple times. WRP did find corrupt files and successfully repaired though the system will not boot to Windows for those changes to take effect. When I type exit into the cmd box it goes back to the Choose an Option screen.
If I click on Continue the screen goes dark, flickers from dark to darker, yet you can tell it is still on, then goes back to the ASUS logo where it says "Preparing Automatic Repair" and after the circles spin a bit it will go to a black screen with cursor, sit for a few minutes, then goes back to the Choose an Option.
I clicked on Troubleshoot > Reset your PC but that fails, and no, he did not create the recovery USB. :thud: I can navigate through the recovery options but nothing I do is successful.
Not sure what I did last night but I tried something in the recovery and it went into the BIOS and to get out of there I had to do a hard shut down. I made sure to choose exit without saving changes after tinkering around in there a bit and shutting it down.
This all started out a couple weeks ago when my daughter in law allowed the netbook to update. It stalled on 84% and she let it sit that way for 2 days (so she says) and the story goes that my 2 yr old granddaughter unplugged the netbook and the battery died before the daughter in law realized it.
Not sure what to do next. Any ideas would be great.
