I haven't been able to successfully install a monthly rollup since (I think) March.

It fails, restarts windows and goes to the recovery console, I have to open a command prompt and roll back the udpate with the following command:

dism.exe /image:c:\ /cleanup-image /revertpending actions.

I restart and Windows comes up... eventually, after reverting (about 25 minutes).

I have tried various solutions, but you guys seem ON TOP OF IT with these types of issues!

First of all, this is a server at a medical clinic... I do not maintain their software or SQL database, so I am very cautious that I don't break their platform with excessive, unnecessary windows updates. That said, this is Server 2008 R2 (SP1).... am I having these problems because I have not updated it to SP2? How safe is it to update? I have system images, but they can't be down for more than 4 hours!

1. sfc /scannow has been run multiple times with no errors
2. SURT/DISM Scan won't run... I downloaded and installed the proper hotfix
SP1Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64 the dism cleanup and got this:

C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.1.7601.24499
Image Version: 6.1.7601.24499
Error: 87
The restorehealth option is not recognized in this context.
For more information, refer to the help.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log
C:\Windows\system32>

4. My CBS LOG FOLDER is here:
CBS.zip

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome!

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Thanks so much for the quick response.
So I don't need to update to 2008 R2 SP2?
FRST.txt attached.

You do, but I'm looking at what our options are as this is a mission critical machine.

Please attach FRST.txt as well and C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log.

I performed a clean boot and tried installing the latest rollup and got the attached.

It was stopped, along with all other non-microsoft services when I tried installing the rollup on clean boot.
I will stop it and try the .NET update. Do I need the full developer pack, or just the runtime?
Thanks

Well, the .NET *appeared* to install correctly, but when it restarted the system, it came right back into the recovery console... so I went ahead and ran revertpendingactions so it would boot back into windows.

It'll be doing this for 30-40 minutes before I get a login prompt.
