Hello,

I found this forum after searching for a fix to Error 80070490 when running Windows Update under Vista x64 Business Edition. I first noticed the problem after I encountered a "disk read error" when booting windows. The disk checked out clean and the problem went away after I ran the manufacturer's test program, but it appears some Windows files were corrupted in the process and now whenever I try to run windows update I get a 80070490 Error.

Based on previous google searches, I have already tried the following:

1. Running sfc /scannow
2. Running the MS "Fixit" utility (How do I reset Windows Update components?)
3. Repair Installation of Windows

All have failed. I can give more details as to how and why they failed upon request, but based on what I've read those methods aren't likely to work.

I have read threads here in which people are able to fix error 80070490 using very specific registry edits. I'm hoping that if I provide the required information, someone could provide me with the necessary registry edits to fix my problem.

I have attached CBS.log and CheckSUR.log in the CBS.zip file, per instructions I have read in similar threads. Can anyone help me based on the information in those files?

Thanks

Thanks for the help Tekno Venus, but I have already reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows. Once I've spent more than about 3 hours trying to debug an issue, it becomes easier to simply reformat. If I ever have this problem again though I will definitely return to these forums.
