When i try to play a game that has punkbuster tied to it i get an error that says "Your computer appears to have changed since the last time you ran Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Would you like the game to configure itself optimally for your new hardware? This is recommended for most people. It will change your system settings but not your controls." Why do i get this error, and how can i fix it? I found a rather strange temporary fix. If i go to Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound / Recording / right click mouse and check "Show Disabled Devices" / double click "Stereo Mix" / and beside where it says "Device usage:" select the option "Use this device (enable)" / Apply and Ok out of the dialog boxes. I can now run Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare but it still has error messages. I still have to click "No" to the error message quoted above, and when i switch the game to "Multiplayer" it says the same error message. After that, i get a punkbuster error message that says "Error. Unable to initialize Punkbuster. Punkbuster is disabled." Why do i have to turn on use this device for something under hardware and sound just for some games to work half A**ed? I hear that Punkbuster no longer supports these games or something, and that most of these errors only occur with Windows 8, 8.1, etc, except for the controller problem and a few other things. In Call of Duty World at War you have to press ~ (the key under Esc) to pull up the "Console" and then type /exec default_controller.cfg to make a controller work, really? They couldn't just make it plug and play? Why are some people so stupid? To my knowledge in Call of Duty Modern Warfare there is NO controller support, so i had to get used to the mouse and keyboard method, that was fun, NOT! I don't understand why on PC there are all of these complications with simply playing some games. I sometimes wish i would have waited for the PS4 slim. The only difference now is if i get a PS4 slim later, i have to rebuy all the games, and everything else... The people who create these games need to revisit them and fix these bugs. People still play games from a couple years ago, you know?
