Hello,

I have a Lenovo Win 7*64 bits laptop. For the last 30 days it is getting hot and freezing at the start screen. PC has become very slow.

Steps taken:

I got my PC cleaned, removed hard disk and changed it with a SSD and reloaded win 7. But the problem remained, so I removed the SSD and continued with my hard disk.

Observations:

The hard disk light sometimes remains on, sometimes off and at times blinks very fast and at times blinks normally.
If the system passes windows starting screen(takes around 25 minutes), then I am able to do work. However, Chrome and Firefox keeps hanging but also runs smoothly many times. At times the system starts normally, without freezing. Many-times, the system shuts down at 30% battery. The system goes to repair mode screen during start, at times it goes to safe mode option screen.

I have done SFC/ scannow and the results were ok. Also ran free malwarebytes and MSE, and the results were ok.

I am also attaching a screen shot of an error received recently.

Please tell me what to do.

Thanks

Many-times, the system shuts down at 30% battery.
If this is the original battery or a 3rd party battery then the 30% is misleading.
Does the freezing and elevated heat occur when the laptop is plugged in and not operating off the battery?

If you get a blue screen, post the info.
As this thread shows someone with the same problem "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down".
Redirecting

Note: I don't read minidump files but if you post additional info, I'll ask that someone who does, looks at the info.

Its a 3rd party battery around 1 and half year old. Yes the freezing and elevated heat occur when the laptop is plugged in and little less when it runs in battery.
I did got a blue screen sometime back but could not read it as it popped and went. Freezing happens both in battery mode and power mode.

But mine is Windows 7
It runs on all machines including Windows Vista, we removed the mention of Windows 7 to encourage users to upgrade to a supported operating system.

Could not understand the first point
It just means that if your machine is unable to save dump files from BSOD crashes then those instructions will enable you to check that your configuration settings are correct.

Also, what was this
It's a .txt file which is shown once the the collection tool has finished running. It just provides instructions on how to attach the .zip file to your forum post like you have already done.

I think the best option is to opt for a new laptop and stop using this laptop entirely. Here's why

The 0xA0 crash occurred because Windows had problems preparing the hibernate file which was due to a bad block on the disk. You noted, however, that you replaced the hard drive with an SSD and continued having problems, this means there are multiple problems.

The description provided gives me an indication that there may also be a problem with other hardware, my suspicion is that the RAM could be causing problems with the performance as RAM problems often cause performance problems.

Then there's the battery problem and the 0x117 error which is a GPU related problem.

Thanks for the advice.
As of now buying a new laptop is not possible. However, from yesterday laptop is running quite ok for 3 hours.
I would also like you to look into the below issue and also check the attached file.

Today my laptop is running smoothly without getting stuck in windows starting screen. I have used it for around 8 hours today. Also it is not heating up. However the battery is still giving wrong indications and the laptop is shutting down at 40% battery charge. Are there any battery tests available? Can battery indicator be corrected?

I have also observed that in control panel devices and printers, it is showing troubleshoot Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter. Please see the attached file.

Why in msconfig start up tab there are 3 entries for intel common user interface, 2 entries for MUI start menu application, 2 unknown programs Wondershare helper compact.exe and WSVCUUpdateHelper.exe.

On task manager, memory usage is between 1.50gb to 1.70gb. Is it ok or high

Google chrome gets stuck many times and it is on the slower side, Firefox works a little better.

Can I update drivers with CCleaner?

Lastly, this time pc ran for 3 hours on battery but shut down at 45% charge.

Waiting for reply for the last two emails.

Thanks a lot.

Are you having problems updating MSE?

A laptop shutting down when the battery isn't near empty typically indicates the battery is dying.

One program can install multiple services so it's no surprise to see multiple items in msconfig for one program.

You only have 2GB of physical RAM and Chrome is known to hog memory, for performance reasons it'd be better to not use Chrome on this laptop. Considering you're running a laptop that's reasonably old, I would not expect it to continuously run smoothly, particularly when you run programs known to use lots of resources. It's quite normal for this laptop to use around 1.7GB of RAM but do be careful not to increase the RAM usage too much by opening many programs or using resource hoggers like Chrome or you'll get more performance problems, crashing programs and different errors.

Since you indicated getting a new laptop is not an option, I'd like some more insight into the health of the drive. Please go to Download and click the blue zip button which will download a portable version of CrystalDiskInfo. Extract the zip file and run diskinfo64.exe which will ask for administrator rights, please allow it.
CrystalDiskInfo uses 3 colors for indication

  • Blue = good
  • Yellow = warning
  • Red = bad

A little below the menu you'll see drives with each a circle with a color, if any of these is NOT blue please click it.
Before making a screenshot, please do the following
- Go to function > Advanced feature > raw values, change it to 10 [DEC]
- Make sure all attributes are clearly visible
Make a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo and post this screenshot in your next post.

Hello,

I am able to update MSE and also do a quick scan but unable to do a full scan as the system is heating in plugged mode and the battery is not good. It is taking lot of time to do a full scan.

Need information on this as I read in google about this issue.
Problem Signature 07: Microsoft Antimalware (Beijing)

Every attribute is blue in CrystalDiskInfo, However, temperature reached 53 degree Centigrade and it turned red. It happened after taking a screenshot.
But it did not made any difference in the color on the attribute menu. The screenshots are attached below.

I went to two Laptop repair shops today. The first one used a SSD and the PC was working good. He said that processor is ok otherwise. He told me that he needs to install Win 7. I did not installed Win 7 as his was a pirated one. He also advised me to increase RAM. As per him I can increase RAM to 8gb max. But I have checked through command prompt that the capacity is 32gb. Which one is correct?

(Q) Is there any way I can keep my original Win 7 and change to SSD.

The second shopkeeper tested the system, and changed a capacitor as it was malfunctioning. The motherboard was also cleaned. He also gave a warranty of 1 month.

Well currently the PC is working but not as good as yesterday. Chrome is very slow but the starting windows screen freezing is not there. The date and time got changed to 01.01.2010, 01:29. Is it a problem? I have changed the date and time. PC heating problem is there but seems it has improved a little.

I have to purchase a battery tomorrow as this one is shutting down at 45%. Its been 11 years with this PC.

(Q) Does ready boost increase speed(Cruzer switch flash drive). If yes, do I need to get the flash drive plugged in all the time.

(Q) Is there any answer for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I purchased a new battery on August 22,2023. Below is a description of whats happening.

Charging Time(high)Battery Performance(seems good)Battery Indicator
1. 2 hours 15 minutes3 hours 30 minutesWrong battery indicator,(see print screen for battery indicator), Also battery dropped from 18% to 6%
2. 1 hour 45 minutes4 hours 5 minutes
Wrong battery indicator, and dropped from
15% to 6%
3.1 hour 48 minutes3 hours 35 minutesWrong battery indicator and dropped from 12% to 6%

I downloaded Batteryinfoview and found that battery health is 89.8%. Just don't know why that is happening with a new battery. System heating seems to have reduced both in battery and ac plugged and freezing is not happening anymore. However, when the battery reaches 10% system heats up to 50-53 degree centigrade. Good thing is that for the last 3 days PC is working better. Windows is not getting stuck in windows starting screen at all.

(Memory):I generally work with 1 to 3 tabs open in chrome. But I have observed that memory usage remains high even with one tab open, 70-80 percent.

(Chrome): Right now I am working with 1 tab open, but there are 10 chrome.exe in taskbar processes. When I open chrome, many a times, the screen turns black for a second or two. Please check the screen shot. This has been happening for a long time. If I open another tab when working with Sysnative, the screen turns sysnative blue. Please see the screenshot for the same. Browser opening time in chrome and firefox is slow and same. Tab opening time in chrome is more than firefox. I have been using chrome for all these years. Its only 10 days that I am using firefox. The settings in chrome are the best, which I am using, no extensions or fancy things. Please note that the screen is turning black for fraction of a second, during booting PC as well.

(MSE): Did a full scan with MSE. System has no issues. It took 8 hours 15 minute, very slow. It used take 3-4 hours, 6 months back.

(Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter): Followed steps from this video

Did a regedit and everything is fine. Is it ok to change values from 8 to 0?

(CCleaner) : Says that the system has lot of issues. Can you tell me how to do regedit or is it not required?

(CPU Slots): Does increasing no. of processors from Advanced boot options increase performance. There are 2, but set at 1 from the day I purchased laptop.

(Maximum Memory): Same with memory, set at 0

Hoping to get a quick reply for this as well the other email.

Thanks
