Hi Guys, whenever I run Skyrim definitive edition, it crashes my pc right at the boot of the game or like 10 minutes into the game. This also happened once in cyberpunk(have yet to play much) and multiple times in Roblox while booting but then after restart did not happen again and the game runs stable for time.
This has been happening since I upgraded to a 5600x(Used AMD Ryzen CPU) and a new motherboard (Used MSI B550M PRO VDH WIFI), I am very frustrated and I did not encounter these issues on my old hardware Ryzen 5500(Used Ryzen CPU) and motherboard(ASUS Prime B450M-A II)
I suspect it's the CPU but I need more help debugging this issue since the CPU did ran well on the prime95 stress tests
I'm willing to share as much as I can to at least know what part is causing it :(

Latest Event Viewer Reports:
UFnCrpRg8p | SourceBin (Machine Check Exception APIC ID:5)
0Tcemv92Qv | SourceBin (Machine Check Exception APIC ID:4)
pmKt8Fe7Hg | SourceBin (Machine Check Exception APIC ID:0)
hnPPKxNQUA | SourceBin (internal driver error, first time encountered this)
T49FOKG7hS | SourceBin (kernel 41, reported in event viewer more than 13times)
6WZWuYzhXp | SourceBin (Bus Interconnect Error APIC ID:0, reported in event viewer more than 13times)
hnaooKtl9y | SourceBin (Machine Check Exception APIC ID:10)

Issues
No Blue/Green Screen.
A BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Sound With A Black Screen And Restart.
Multiple WHEA Logger In Event Viewer.
PC randomly restarts after several hours of browsing but not always although just pointing it out.
PC randomly shuts off sound in left speaker of headphone, the sound works back after doing a few restarts and replugging.

What I Have Tried:
-ran OCCT twice for an hour
-ran prime 95 for a night.
-ran tm5 memory test.
-ran mem86 test.
-Overclocked, Underclocked my CPU by curve optimizer(positive and negative on all cores) the CPU can't handle anything negative over -10 and sometimes even -10 is too much.
-enabled/disabled XMP Ram Profile.
-ran aida64 benchmark, the pc SOMETIMES fail at the memory copy benchmark phase although it has not recently

note: the game Skyrim ran for the most time (10minutes) when i said my bios settings to default = no PBO and no XMP profile
Thanks For Any Help, I Will Appreciate It.

I think it's probably your CPU too. It's dangerous making any sort of a diagnosis based on just one dump of course, but the bugcheck for this dump was a 0xC000021A
WINLOGON_FATAL_ERROR. As you might expect, this bugcheck happens when the winlogon.exe process terminates unexpectedly. The exception code here is 0xC0000263, which indicates that the specified driver entry point could not be found. That's not much help of course but a deeper analysis of the dump reveals that the bugcheck happened during a power transition...
Code:
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0xc000021a_SmpDestroyControlBlock_smss.exe_Terminated_c0000263_nt!PopTransitionSystemPowerStateEx
Note the nt!PopTransitionSystemPowerStateEx function call in this error message - that's where the failure occurred.

In your System log we also see several machine check error messages...
Code:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger
Date: 13/04/2024 06:18:21
Event ID: 18
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords:
User: LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: AMD
Description:
A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
Processor APIC ID: 0
These happen on different processors and are either Bus/Interconnect errors (as this one ) or Cache Hierarchy Errors. This could be either a CPU issue or a RAM issue, so something to check before we focus on the CPU is this; is your RAM on the QVL for the new motherboard? If it's not that doesn't mean it won't work of course, but it dopes mean that it's not been confirmed as fully compatible. When you're seeing BSDOs non-QVL RAM always raises a red flag.

Since the one dump we have looks like a power transition problem, and since I have experienced CPUs before that have problems transitioning from a low power idle state to the full power running state, I think this is the place to start looking. As a test we want to stop your CPU from ever entering a low power state when idle, if that stops these problems then we know what the problem is. There are two ways of doing this, one in the BIOS and one in Windows. You can use either or both at the same time...
  • In the BIOS disable C-States completely for all processors. C-States are the various power states that the CPU will support, disabling C-States completely forces the CPU to run at the running power state even when idle.
  • In Windows, edit your current power profile so that in the Processor Power Management section both the minimum AND maximum processor power states are at 99%. Why 99%? Because I know that works, I am less sure about whether setting them both to 100% has the same effect.
Either of these will use a tad more power and will generate a little more heat, but in a desktop that's not really an issue. Let us know whether either (or both) of those mitigations has the effect pf stopping the problems. But do check the QVL for the RAM you're using.

Hi thankyou so much for the diagnosis. After setting my "global cstate control" to disabled in msi bios and setting my power management for processor to 99% on max and min, my pc ran straight for 4 hours on skyrim with no issues! but now my cpu is stuck at a constant 3.63ghz on benchmarks or idle and the mhz is between 3500 - 3650. this is bad because my ryzen 5600x is supposed to be running at 4.2 base and 4.7 GHZ max with an MHZ of 3700 - 4600, but the temps has decreased by18degrees. other then that I think even my headphones have been fixed I did not experience my left speaker shutting off anymore randomly. now the thing is that I can still refund this ryzen 5600x but then I can buy a ryzen 5500 only. Any idea on what other checks I should do or any advice?..I am going to run skyrim again and again because this was only the first time and maybe it will be different next time..

Hi sorry for telling you about the ram but I believe it is QVL in fact, but I am not completely sure so I request you to check for me please it's right here:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B550M-PRO-VDH-WIFI/support
the ram is 2x8(16gb 1 stick in a2, 2nd in b2) model: CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 ver5.39 (last digit "9" in the version refers to the revision) I found ver5.30 in the qvl but not 5.39 which is my revision of the same model.

Hardware is not my strong point, but IMO by stopping the processors entering lower power states and finding that all works well, even if that's also limited the CPU frequency, then I think you've shown conclusively that the CPU is flaky at lower power C-States. I'm not able to advise on what best to replace it with however, only that I believe it to be flaky.

BTW that RAM is on the QVL, in two variants, ver3.32 and ver5.30

Hi, if the cpu is flakey at low power C States, doesn't that mean that after disabling low power C states, my cpu frequency should be higher since it is not in lower power c state states anymore?

Honestly I don't know, but the C-States control power, not frequency, so I doubt it.

Hi, I have tried messing alot with the settings and I think nothing else works for the cpu. I went to the motherboard settings and changed the cpu frequency to 4000-4600 and they all were unstable. Then I set it back to 3700mhz and it was stable back again after few restarts and sound problems. I am going to refund this cpu soon but are we sure this is a cpu problem? I feel like the motherboard is having issues adjusting to the cpu or something? any other checks and diagnosis I can sent? Thanks
Also do you have any idea or have any learning resources that can help me understand comparing different cpu's architecture and about c state's powercontrol?

I'm at the limit of my hardware knowledge here. You might want to open a thread in the Hardware forum here with a link back to this thread.
