Outlook 2016 search issues

I have a client who reported an issue with their Outlook 2016 having problems searching. I verified via OWA that search was working fine for the user. They have Exchange 2016 on-prem.

If we set the registry to search the local machine, works fine. Rebuilt his OST, rebuilt his Outlook profile, rebuild his local search index (Which shouldn't matter.)

I finally found that if we search the entire mailbox or subfolders, the search works fine. If we search only specific folders, this is where it doesn't work. Occasionally it does, very sporadic.

Since the user reported this, other folks in the office started having the same problem. I feel like it's a recent update (Click-to-run) as users reported this after a power outage (Which most likely caused updates to install since they never reboot.) No known issues I can find, no other occurrences online I can find.

Running version 1905 build 11629.20246 CTR of Office 2016 H&B. Error screen shot attached.

Any ideas?

If it is from a recent update, it would seem it is on the Exchange side of things. I have Outlook 2016 installed on a couple systems here, but these are not connected to Exchange and searches in the "Current Folder" (as well as the other options) work just fine.

The fact other users are suddenly reporting the same problem would seem to suggest it has to do with Exchange itself, or the Exchange settings/code on these client machines.

Sadly, you have tried all the suggestions I can find where others saw that error so I am of no help. :( I will keep searching but hopefully someone else with more ideas will stop by.
