06/20/2015 Hello everyone,

The only recent activity that I can think of that might have caused the repeat activation prompts was the use of a script I found on the internet severalyears ago.

My first computer was a Windows XP machine with Office 7 (?). It came witha MS Office RT9450 keyboard. That keyboard's had a scroll wheel on the lefthand side. I still use that keyboard.

I purchased a Windows 7 64 bit machine about 4 years ago. The scroll wheel didn’twork. With the aid of AutoHotKey and the script, I was able to get the scroll wheel to work. I never had a problem.

I now have another new computer equipped with Windows 7 Home Premium – 64bit with Windows 2013 Home and Student installed. I purchased it from a company named Ironside Computers in Wisconsin about 2 months ago. On 06/17/2015 I went through the procedure to make the scroll wheel usable and was successful. I shut-down the computer to do other things. When I returned to the computer later that day and opened excel I received the "activation is needed" message. ( see attachment) I had activated Home and Student when I first received the computer. However, I went through the procedure for activation anyway. That did not solve the activation message problem. I removed any script related files I could find, thinking that may have triggered the problem. The problem still exists.

I am confused about Microsoft Office because I have found two instances of it. In Program Files there is a folder entitled Microsoft Office 15. Within it are 4 other folders and 5 xml documents (a screen shot of that is attached). In Program Files (x86) there is a folder entitled Microsoft Office. Within it, is a folder entitled Office15. Within the Office 15 folder are an HTML document, a VBScript File, an Application File and an XML document (a screen shot is attached). However, in start orb list of programs what I see is Microsoft Office 2013, Excel 2013 etc.

Hello,

I was able to work through the Microsoft maze and got to a tech who solved my problem.

I'm sure this won't be my last visit. Its a great source of help and information.

As you probably noticed, MGADiag isn't a whole lot of use in diagnosing problems with Office 2010 and up - because these versions use a different scheme for activation to the earlier ones which MGADiag was designed to analyse.

I too have an Office 15 folder - additional to my Office 2010 folder. This was generated I think when I installed the One-Note 'free upgrade' which is based on Office 365 (and which is really only useful if you have a permanent connection to the internet, since it's one-drive based).

Glad you got it sorted!

Hi NoelDP,

Thanks for your reply. Its too bad Microsoft makes it so difficult for computer help forums to diagnose problems with their systems. I would opine that making it easier for Sysnative and other websites to diagnose and correct problems for users of their products. That approach might make users less frustrated when having problems with Microsoft products.

Thanks for the explanation regarding the two folders.

Sysnative is the best help forum I've ever run across.

Thanks for your help and concern.
