Office 2013 slow to open
As of late, any office software I open takes a long time to open...20 - 40 seconds. It used to open instantly but now lags when it opens. Well I found a fix for it...here's how. It worked for me.



Open any Office application first, Word, for example, go to Word Options, click on "Advanced" tab, and look for the following option in "Display" section:


Disable hardware graphics acceleration


Enable this option, exit Word, and try to start any Office applications.

Thanks for the tip - it's speeded up office from 3 seconds to 1 second on my SSD! :D

Crap...I would have been happy with the 3 seconds compared to my 20-40 seconds. Now I'm at 3 seconds....what an improvement. Now, I couldn't imagine the speed I get w/an SSD...really looking forward to getting one.
 
An SSD is by far the best upgrade I made to this laptop.

I now have two HDDs in here, one where the optical drive used to be. I can gladly sacrifice the ODD for the huge speed increase! Boot up with Windows 8 is about 15 seconds, and I am not light with my boot up programs:

ESET Smart Security
Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit
Skype
Bvckup
KeePass 2
TeamViewer
Dropbox
F.Lux
CintaNotes
Greenshot

The main advantage I've found with the SSD, is even though it does still take another ~15 seconds for all those apps to appear, I can carry on doing other things whilst they load without any slowdown. Having a large amount of startup programs is no longer such an issue, and 8GB of RAM means there's plenty of RAM spare.
