hi and hello again:

just noticed no radio button in Control Panel>Folder Options>View>Hidden files and folders. Laptop is W7E-64b, activated. Ran SFC/ scannow and no issues/corruptions. Updates are working satisfactorily, SFCFix shows no corruptions also.

Laptop had a virus and removed w/ MALWAREBYTES several months ago. Laptop is a test machine and my issue is registry related I am sure, however NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL folders with keys, values, and data are identical to a working machine with same NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL folders.

What is going on....feel comfortable with registry so do we need a registry entry?? Ownership issue? Permissions???

Thx...

thx for the reply....however the file as described above already has value=group. What next??

I checked the HIDDEN file and compared entry to another W7E-64b OS that has correct (2) radio buttons. Every key and value is the same in HIDDEN and subfiles NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL. Really strange.

Thx again

That's all I was able to find for the missing button. If the key, listed as Type is present and the value is group, then I don't know what else you can do.

Hi,

Try this!

Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable
  • extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
  • execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
  • click the button Jump To Repairs
  • In this case I think you can skip the System Restart in Safe Mode to execute the next steps
  • click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    WindowsRepair.png
  • click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the box's
  • check only the following box's:
    • 10 - Remove Policies Set By Infections
  • check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
  • click the Start Repairs button

hi and hello:

no dice...same display...no RADIO button for SHOWALL (show hidden files, folders, drives}. Great idea and use of tweaking.com. Just realized I improperly specified what radio buttom was missing in original help request. I don't think it matters. Again registry entries for HIDDEN are identical to working OS containg correct (2) radio buttons.

Lets do DISM where we compare the install files with current OS image. We use the cmd prompt and will explore today. I think Windows Folder Options is messed up containing View tab...what do you think?

Thx again....

Still no recommendations the work to solve my problem...I have no radio button for "Show Hidden Files, Folders , Drives". Lots of people have tried to assist but no solutions. I am going to do a clean install of W7E-64b this weekend and transfer my files to the new install. Seems like a lot of work but I am mystified and stomped.

Hi,

(replied as requested by PM)

Create a new account on this Windows machine with administrator rights.
Log in with the new account and check if the radio button is shown.

the same results....no radio button for "Show Hidden Files, Folders , Drives". New acct established for Admin as requested.

thx for the reply.

Laptop had a virus and removed w/ MALWAREBYTES several months ago.
Which virus ?
Provide the scan/clean report of Malwarebytes.
Did this issue start after the infection or before ?

hi and hello:

There are no logs from Maleware bytes to ck. I also remember seeing BitDefender on this laptop. Also no logs to review. Laptop was given to me so I cleaned up non-working AV's. I may have gotten too aggressive w/ removal and regedit for additional cleanout. Since this is a test machine, no vital files. Laptop was given to me w/ authenticated key

Don't want to waste your time. Lets close this thread w/ a [SOLVED]...Clean Install of W7E-64b Required. Can you close this thread for me? I will experiment w/ BitDefender as web research says AV/BitDefender locks hidden files in some way. I can experiment latter.

I will reload W7E-64b w/ key tonight. Hopefully all updates will occur. If not I will start a new thread w/ error code.

Learned a lot from Sysnative staff. Many thx again. Stay safe.

Remnants of a virus or remnants of AV programs can cause various problems.
If you like you may try this fix.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download

The log just reports a FILE_NOT_FOUND issue on a missing registry key or value. This is normal.
Reboot the machine and check again if the missing radio buttons are shown.

Are there any remaining issues on this machine ?

[SOLVED}....awesome skills you have, Thank you so much.

All radio buttons are displayed for hidden/non-hidden files, folders, and drives. All option box clicks are working and restore defaults work satisfactorily.

This demands another PayPal contribution ($20) for outstanding troubleshooting, analysis, and recommendations.

Thx again......be safe
