The Edge-icon is missing in the pdf-contextmenu , it should be next to the "open with"option ; Microsoft Edge .
After the new upgrade to 2004 , the icon is still missing , any solution, please............?no Edge-icon in contextmenu.jpg

The first thing I'd try is rebuilding my icon cache. Search the forums here or the web, as the number of step-by-step instruction sets for doing same numbers in the thousands.

I agree with rebuilding the icon cache (if a simple reboot did not work). Rebuilding the icon cache used to be real easy in previous versions of Windows - you just had to delete one file, restart Windows, and a new icon cache would be rebuilt. But now, as seen here, there could be a dozen or more files, and to make matters worse, Windows does not let you simply delete them because they are "in use".

You can certainly follow the steps in that link, or, you can scroll down on that page and download and use the Thumbnail and Icon Cache Rebuilder for Windows 10 tool. I personally have used this neat little tool on more than one occasion. It definitely is a lot easier than the manual process, and it works.

" rebuilding icon cache dose not fixe the problem "............nope , no luck !
What could be wrong ?
btw ; this Edge-icon not present in html-contextmenu either !
Maybe Edge is the "bad guy " , though Edge does work in pdf and html , its just the missing icon............

Hmmm, not sure then. I use Edge as the default on all my systems and just checked several file types where Edge is suggested as an "Open with" option and on each computer (all with 2004), the Edge icon was properly displayed.

If me, I would open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow. If you get errors that cannot be fixed, or if that does not fix your problem, then I will back out and point you to here.

Using Legacy Edge , not the latest ( yet) .
In VM , installed new Edge does work and its showing the icons also .
Legacy Edge is "the bad guy"...!
Will try sfc /scannow , to be sure........

And even if legacy Edge weren't "the bad guy" it is, well and truly, "dead browser walking," so to speak.

There's no good reason not to go to the new Chromium-based Edge, and from my experience with the Dev builds almost from the moment they became available it's very stable. Right now that's all I use in Edge. I'm not manually installing the new Edge just because I use the Dev builds and I want to see how long it takes before Microsoft actually pushes the stable build of new Edge to me.

" has not already replaced the old version "..........MS is pushing this update in near future , will try then .........
My old Edge works fine and looks good enough to me , except this contextmenu-icon.

New Edge has *just* begun to be rolled out, and slowly, via Windows Update. I don't believe it's even included as part of Feature Update to Version 2004, though I could be mistaken about that.

Original Edge is, in my opinion, just "not ready for primetime," and I despised it. As a user of both the Google Chrome browser (limited) and Brave browser (primary), I was tickled pink when it was announced that Edge was being converted to be based on Chromium and have been very happy with it, and willing to use it, since the first Dev build I installed.

If I weren't already using Dev builds, which are a couple of steps ahead of the stable build, I would have manually updated long ago.

" Will try sfc /scannow , to be sure........"...............did not fixed my icon-problem !

" @{Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_44.19041.1.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe?ms-resource://Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge/Files/Assets/MicrosoftEdgePDF.png}" ...............should be my default Edge-icon for pdf ! ( according to regedit )
I just cant find this file in the Assets-folder !!
How( ?) to get this file ??

I have copied "MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.targetsize-16_altform-unplated.png", renamed it as "MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.png" (yes, both in the same folder), but I didn't reboot yet (I'm avoiding it).
Would you want to try the same?

" Would you want to try the same? ".........yes , lets try !
Can you send me the 44x44-file ...........I dont have it !
The path for ApplicationIcon is ; @{Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_44.19041.1.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe?ms-resource://Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge/Files/Assets/MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.png}...........I dont have it !

Well, that confirms that the Feature Update to Version 2004 does not, at least right now, include new Edge with it.

The easiest way to determine your version of Edge is to look in its About pane.

For original edge: Open Edge Menu, Settings, scroll to bottom of General (which is what opens by default) and look.

ALT+F,B,M for new Edge, where the version will be eighty-something

By the way, even once new Edge installs and original Edge is made inaccessible to the end user, it is not completely uninstalled.

Microsoft made an awful lot of non-web-browser stuff dependent on the Microsoft EdgeHTML rendering engine, and that means it will be hanging around for that purpose for quite some time if not permanently.
