No Cumulative Updates will install. Win 10.

I cannot update Windows 10 at all. I currently have Windows 10 Pro version 1903, build number 18362.175.

I receive error code: 0x800f0922 for every cumulative update. It will download, install, reboot, and windows rejects the update.

I have run the troubleshooter so very many times, and it never says anything except for when I have a restart pending, and then that is what it says... restart pending.

I have been dealing with this for quite a long while, as in several months. After giving up trying to figure it out on my own, I posted at BleepingComputer a month ago. It's been well over a week since the one member has replied to me. That other post can be found here. KB4506991 nor KB4512941 will install on my Win10 computer - Windows 10 Support

As you can see from the post, I originally thought I was having issues with only a couple of updates. As it turns out, anything labelled Cumulative Update fails. Though the instructions I received did not help, I am very happy someone took the time to help.

Unfortunately, he is apparently unable to continue helping. He did try for nearly a whole month.

Please, help me figure this out. With all the security flaws you read about in the news lately, coupled with Microsoft issuing warnings... I feel as though I'm not protected as much as I should be.

I'm willing to try anything... Nothing else is broken within Windows, with the exception of cumulative updates. During my time trying to fix it myself, I did a reset and a fresh install, and neither resolved the problem.

Thank you in advance for reading and for any help that comes my way. .

Hi!

Please do the following:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.

Okay. I cannot do this. Regardless of whether I instigate the update or it happens on its own automatically... It will download the update "install" the update, and then leave me with a restart pending. It is not until I restart the PC that the error occurs. It will get near 100%, but it never reaches it, and then says the updates couldn't complete. It will then restart at least twice, sometimes three times, undoing the changes, and my computer comes back to me... not updated.

I'm unsure of how to run ProcMon while this is occurring.

Please advise?
Thank you.

Thank you for the additional information, so, just to confirm, you are getting the following screen?

Please attach CBS.log. (Regardless of the message you may be receiving)

There appears to be a problem with your boot partition.

Is there enough space on your System Reserved partition?

My system reserved drive is 500 GB... it just is, I don't have a reason for something that big.

Yes, I do have Zorin installed as a secondary OS because things happen, and I prefer to not lose all my data.

Is there something further I can do to remedy this?

You may have misunderstood. I was not asking about the size of your hard drive, but the size of your System Reserved partition. It should be around 500 MBs, but it has to have free space.

Zorin is the likely root cause here. I would recommend you temporarily disconnect the drive containing Zorin as it interferes with the update process.

Okay... so this is weird. And please, keep in mind that I have had this issue for several months, and I did do a fresh install a few months ago. So that means that install did not cause the problem.

That said...

In order to see the recovery drive (though through options that are set I should be able to see everything) I must go to Disk Management. It doesn't show up in Explorer... so I technically have no idea how much space is free.

Also, I attempted to disconnect the drive as instructed. The first reboot resulted in stating bootmedia was not present.... so I thought maybe I disconnected the wrong one. I tried the other drive. I got the same message. I've never seen anything like that before.

Yes, the free space is shown in percentage in Disk Management. How much percent does it say is free?

Once you disconnect your linux drive, you may need to adjust the boot order in the UEFI/BIOS.

ahhh... I had to maximize. It says 100% free?

Okay. Allowing my BIOS to choose, and manually selecting the disk as well, still produces the same result. Is it possible that for some reason, Windows believes these two drives to be one? It seems as though the computer needs both to boot at all. How do I fix that? Because simply disconnecting the drive isn't working. Hmm... so weird.

Do you think getting rid of the Zorin by formatting the partition it sits on would be a prudent way to get rid of it?

Just checking in Disk Management, the only option I have for where Zorin is is to Delete Volume... format isn't available.

Good idea to proceed or no?

I'll try the instructions in the post you shared, and report back here when finished.

Okay. Forgive me, but I'm unsure how to proceed. Disk 0, partition 1 holds my windows installation. What do I do now?
