I have a month old Windows Server 2022 Standard install that always fails to install the last cumulative update, tried rebooting, following this procedure, it starts installing, shows 20%, then 100% then it always fails with error 0x800f0905.

In case it matters this was originally a Server Standard Evaluation install that was converted to a Standard install with a genuine key.

Appreciate any help.

Edit: Sorry, just now saw the instructions here, running now, will update the post.

sfc/ scan now did not find any integrity violations
Dism operation completed successfully.
ComponentsScanner result and CBS logs (had to delete oldest cab file or it would be too large) attached.

For anyone having the same issue an in-place install appears to have fixed the problem.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Glad you managed to resolve the problem with an in-place upgrade. Did you use the evaluation ISO or another (retail) ISO with the Server Standard Product key during the installation?

Had to use the retail ISO, the evaluation ISO didn't allow an in-place upgrade, it didn't ask for the key during the install but had to enter it again after to re-activate Windows.

Thanks, this is a common issue with Windows Server 2022 and it is still unclear what's the root cause when the evaluation version is activated with a Standard (genuine) key.

May I also ask how long the evaluation version has been used - just a month, or was this server prepared earlier - before activating with the genuine key?

Like a week or so, I installed the evaluation, configured everything and installed all available updates, they all installed fine including the September cumulative update, then converted to Server Standard retail following the instructions from this YouTube video, entered my key, all looked normal, but after the first cumulative update was available it always failed to install it, all other updates installed fine.

P.S. I tried the in-place update because I found that worked for another user in the forum.

Key is from a Microsoft Action Pack subscription, I believe those are retail?
