Hi,

I am using Windows 7 (64bit) and keep getting error code 80070490 when trying to use windows update.

I will try to attach the SFCFix log and I am amazed at the number of errors.

I am having difficulty attaching the cbs zip file.

Any help is much appreciated.

Barry

Hello Barry and welcome to the forum :),

Can you please open up SFCFix.txt and post the contents back here?

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next please post please upload via Dropbox or ge.tt

Ok thanks will try latter today when I get home.
When I tried to attach the SFC file it tried to do it but it did not appear so I will open and hopefully paste the text.
Also when I tried to copy and paste the CBS folder it let me copy it but when I right click to paste in this thread the option was not there.

Regards,

Barry

If your CBS folder is too large, you can always use our automated collection system:

SFCFix CBS Collection

  1. Download SFCFix.exe using the following link and save the tool to your Desktop: [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload]
  2. Download SFCFix.txt and save this to your Desktop as well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.../Scripts/~Generic/Collect/CBS/SFCFix.txt?dl=1
  3. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  4. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now begin to upload your CBS logfiles to our server.

Here is the SFCfix.txt file

EDIT Tekno Venus - I've had to attach the file due to its large size causing crashes.

Hello Barry,

There is quite a lot of registry corruptions going on here.

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  • Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
  • Go to your desktop and run KB947821
  • When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Ok I thought there might be hope I don't have to a complete reinstall to sort.
Anyway when I ran the tool it asked me to install hotfix KB947821 which I trust is correct.
I will now try to attach the log files

Hi Barry,

Looks like the registry corruptions are still there, lets grab the registry hive for a closer look

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload] (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Thanks Barry I have received the files.

This will take a me a little longer to create a fix for this, I should hopefully have one for you in a few days.

Hi Barry,

Unfortunately I don't have very good news for you :( Your COMPONENTS registry Hive is to corrupt to try and repair. From here we have to complete a Repair Install of Windows 7. Before doing this it is best to back up any important files, the repair install shouldn't remove any of your personal files, but its always best to back up in case something goes wrong.

Please follow the below guide on how to perform a repair install:
