Hello Again, Your expert volunteer/s assisted me last year with a Windows 7 corruption issue and were AWESOME! I have the same problem again on a *different* system but from a similar cause. A failing hard drive apparently caused some data corruption before I could discover what was happening. The problem manifested when I ran a CD label printing program which crashed the splwow64.exe from the
msvcrt.dll module. This program (Epson Print CD) works perfectly on another W7 Pro computer. This issue eventually let me to run SFC /scannow, which failed almost immediately.

Remembering the process from last time, I have:

1. Ran "chkdsk c: /f" during boot-up (scheduled). No errors found
2. Ran "sfc /scannow"
3. Downloaded and ran "checkSUR", which had around 48 errors remaining.
4. Visited this forum and downloaded "SFCFix", then ran it.
5. I have attached the SFCFix log
6. The CBS.zip file is too large so I'll go back to check the instructions and make an additional post shortly (I want to post the current info asap!)

My hope is, that someone familiar with this issue can help me bring this installation fully back from the "dead" and fix the remaining problems. Thank you in advance,

RPM7777

Have you tried to either -
1 - uninstall the Epson printer program, then reinstall it
or -
2 - re-install the Epson printer program (it may have a "repair" feature)

Regards. . .

Thanks for this suggestion. Yes, I have completely removed the "Print CD" program, used a registry cleaner and reinstalled the program-- with the same result. The strange faulting error with the "msvcrt.dll" file is what prompted me to run the sfc, which revealed the current issues needing repair (seen in the CBS.zip file referenced above). Hopefully this can be reconstructed without reinstalling Windows...

Hi,

Lets work on the corrupted system files...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

You are welcome.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,

Looks good.

SFC scan
  • Please open up a Command Prompt Window as a Administrator, instructions for Windows 7 or Windows 8 and 8.1.
  • Inside the command prompt window type or copy & Paste the following command:
    sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish. If the result is not "No integrity violations found" or equivalent please do the following:

Locate the log c:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log copy the file to the Desktop, Zip it and attach to your post.

Note: If the file is too big to attach please upload it to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Here is what sfc returned:

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
em.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS>

I have attached the file below, thanks!

Ok, another fix.

After the fix repeat the SFC scan and post the fix log and CBS.log if errors are reported.

Ok, ran the script but the system is requiring a reboot before I can run sfc again. I'm doing that now...

OK, sorry for that delay... SFC reported no integrity violations this time-- yay! We're getting closer... Attached is the CBS file...

Good. Try to install the Epson Print CD if it fails do the following:

ยป Minitoolbox log
Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Run the tool, check the following options:
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (Only Problems)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

Have not used Minitoolbox before but will give it a try. Someone is pulling on my arm to attend a long meeting now so I need to go. I REALLY appreciate your help on this and hate to interrupt your generous efforts but my attendance is mandatory. :-( I will do the above and get back to you in a few hours. Have a great evening in Portugal! :-) THANKS AGAIN!!!

Ok, thank you for the update.

Minitoolbox will not fix anything is only a easy way to collect information from the system.

Thank You, I will see you tomorrow.
