Hi Sysnative, I'm an 81 year old elder in need of some help. I have been trying to create a system image and it will not complete, stops about half way with the following message:

The backup failed.
The operation failed due to a device error encountered with either the source or the destination. If the source or destination volume is on a disk, run CHKDSK/R on the source or destination volume, and then retry the operation. (0x8078012D)

Additional Information:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. (0x8007045D)

My computer is a Dell XPS Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), SP1

I have today's CBS.log (it's only 991kb), the sfcdetails.txt from it and today's SFCFix.txt report.

Thanks,
Cary J

Hello and welcome,

Follow the instructions below please.

  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Hi PeterJ,

Thanks for your response, however, I actually got the corrupt file fixed myself. It was a good learning experience and I feel really good that I was able to do it myself. I will no longer have any fear of corrupt files in the future. I discovered the SFCFix.exe tool on Sysnative and I have found out it is one heck of a tool. I decided to read some tutorials on manually fixing a corrupt file and SFCFix.exe told me exactly which file on my Desktop was bad. My Laptop has the exact same Win7 so I copied a good file with a USB drive and pasted it on my Desktop desktop.

I was all set to enter ALL of the TUTORIAL commands into command prompt to fix the file -- but first, just to be sure I had the exact corrupt file targeted, I decided to run SFCFix.exe once again.
Well, it really surprised me, instead of showing me my corrupt file again, it announced that it had found (all on its own) the good file on my desktop and had fixed the bad one. -- And sfc says all is good now.

I saw that you are very swamped there and I just want to say that I am very thankful we have Sysnative, and caring professionals like you, that we can ask for help with these too often unpredictable machines.
