Hi!

I've been getting random moments for a couple of months, where my pc stutters, both audio and video seem to almost halt and buzz (looks like running a game in real-time but at 1fps). I've already tried to get my drivers up to date and used DDU for my graphics card driver, that helped reduce the frequency of the stutters but they keep happening and last around 3-5 seconds. DPC latency averages around 900us, spiking rarely to 3500us. I haven't been able to catch a reading when the stuttering happens, which is while running demanding tasks. I've noticed that Unreal Engine programs cause it to be more frequent, and it's the only task that just crashes when a stutter happens.

Computer specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H Rev 1.0
GPU: EVGA 1660 Ti SC Ultra
RAM: 2x8GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro
PSU: EVGA 100-W1-0600-KR 80 PLUS White 600W
Storage:
-Kingston A2000 1TB NVMe
-Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB SATA
-Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200rpm
-Seagate BarraCuda 4TB 5400rpm

I need help as I haven't been able to find anything useful aside from the usual tips (update drivers, restart, look for something on this log and find out what to do with it). Thanks in advance!

Hi GetMazapaned, weclome to Sysnative :)

Are you using the latest motherboard BIOS? If this is the correct product support site, the latest BIOS incorporates AGESA 1.2.0.7 which is supposed to have a fix for an intermittent stuttering issue that crops up if the fTPM option is enabled in the BIOS settings.

This video is an example of a system having the problem.

Hi, thanks!

Yes, that is the correct support site, and no I'm not using the latest BIOS. I haven't updated from f42e which I only did to be able to run Ryzen 3000 CPUs.

I have doubts about the BIOS updating process. I've seen some people mention that I have to update the versions one by one until I reach the one I wanted to stay at instead of updating directly to the one I want. Others have said to just update directly. Which of those methods is the correct one?

Please let me know so I can do it properly and safely, and then get back to you in case the stutters continue.

I would recommend first updating to the latest B450 AMD Chipset Driver from here. You shouldn't need to install any other drivers from that page - just the AMD Chipset Driver. Then you should be able to safely update straight to the latest motherboard BIOS (F63b) from the motherboard support page.

Nice! I'm glad it worked and thank you for the update.

Hello, I hope you're having a great day.

I'm back with the same intermittent stuttering issue, the last fix worked for a while, but now they started again. There's a lot of time between one stutter and the other, they last about 2 seconds, and then it goes back to normal.

I'm hoping for help to troubleshoot this, think it might be something specific on my system but I could be wrong. I don't remember doing anything when the issue started nor for it to come back aside from the fix on #4.

Thanks!

I don't know what has changed but there is a newer BIOS update (F63c) for your motherboard than what you installed last time (F63b). I'm not at all confident it will make a difference but it's something I would try - to at least eliminate it as a possibility. Can you try that and let me know if whether or not it makes a difference?

Took me a while to update it, but it's been a week now and I haven't noticed any stuttering, I'll mark it as solved but will come back for some troubleshooting if it appears somehow.
Thanks!
