Hello there,

I'm really lagging behind on my schedule because of this problem. It started to happen just a few days back, out of nowhere, I've checked what went wrong but couldn't find anything.
What's happening is that my mouse cursor starts to lag and become really slow in response after using my pc for sometime. It works perfectly on any window or inside any application but when it is on the desktop it lags and becomes totally unresponsive. Please could you help me out with this problem.

Thank you
DONKILLER

Make sure computer is not overheating.
Install latest version of the mouse driver.
Boot your computer into Safe Mode and if the mouse lag issue resolves within Safe Mode then one of the startup program or third party service causing the issue perform Clean Boot of Windows to find out which third party startup service or applications causing the issue.

Might want to run some malware scans, too. You can use one of the bootable (USB/CD/DVD) "Rescue Disks" available from several reputable security vendors (AVG, Avira, Kaspersky, Eset, BitDefender, Avast, etc...) to provide the in-depth "2nd opinion" (to help back up your locally installed antimalware). The CD/DVD disks (if not rewritable) provide a very "clean" boot from which to run the scans (helpful, since the local protectors might be compromised). The Rescue Disks are also usually free.

You could also check in on some of your basic settings and make sure they are OK -- free disk space, virtual memory settings, startup programs, Windows Updates (if some are failing to install & then trying again over and over - that'll slow things down a bit), BIOS/UEFI settings (sometimes a power surge can throw the settings off)... that sort of thing.

Of course, follow FreeBooter's tips as well - temps, clean boot, Safe Mode -- all these should help narrow down the possibilities.

Hope it goes well

P.S. ... (I always forget something....) I like to recommend running diagnostics, too, whenever a computer starts behaving strangely.

So after a reboot, it works fine for awhile? If so, Safe Mode probably won't help but worth a try.

I agree to scan for malware. It seems odd it works fine in open windows of 3rd party apps and only lags on the desktop. Pretty much all the other complaints I found report lagging everywhere, or only in apps but not the desktop. Yours is only the desktop. ???

If you drill down into a drive with File Explorer, does it work fine then?

Guys guys the issue is only on the desktop, it works normally when I open Windows Explorer, or any other 3rd party apps. But whenever you minimize or close the window and come back to the eh desktop my mouse cursor. My pc isn't overheating nor is my country usage high when this happens.

You need to follow our advice and report us the result of our suggestions. You sound like you have not tried any of our suggestions you need to eliminate causes of mouse lag that we think you need to check out.

Is the system with the problem the same Lenovo Y50 FHD gaming laptop that is in your signature? I've seen threads about some "known issues" with the touchpad drivers acting up (the most noticeable issue was faulty right-click responsiveness). When you mention your "mouse" cursor - are you using the touchpad, or an attached external mouse? [...and does the issue happen in Safe Mode?] FreeBooter already mentioned seeing if a new driver was available for your problem device (whether touchpad or mouse) -- I think checking on Lenovo's website is a good idea too. While you are at the Lenovo support site, you could also check if there are any "known issues" with your particular model ... since gaming laptops have lots of the latest performance subsystems, they tend to also get a lot of patches/updates for the newest gadgets. There could be a BIOS/UEFI update, too - which might help.

Very interesting, that's for sure. Let us know if anything improves. Can't hurt to try some of the suggestions - they are for the most part fairly quick and painless (though of course - your schedule might limit things to small steps here & there ... )

Good luck!

Ok So I finally gave up and did a hard reset of my laptop, I even upgraded my RAM to 16 GB. The mouse lag issue is solved, but now my pc is taking a long time to startup, and sometimes when i restart i just get a blackscreen, I have to force shut down and then start up laptop again for it to work, It still takes a long time to startup, Im gonna try a clean boot again to see whats wrong. PS This time it must be some 3rd party app

I used anti malware bytes and scanned no use.
Mouse works perfectly fine when I'm inside any window even the start window that pops up
It works fine even if I go deep into File Explorer
It lags only in the desktop

Quick Edit

Clean Boot seemed to have worked but i dont know what app or process is stealling all the Ram. I've posted a screenshot of my task manager at startup.Untitled.jpg

Hi again

Your system memory usage looks okay. You do have a fair amount of disk activity, which is the likelier source of your startup slowdowns.

Since you did a reset, Windows is going to have to catch-up for the next few days (as long as a week) with all the updates that now need to be installed. The black screen at start - especially if you see high disk activity (hopefully your Lenovo has a disk activity indicator light) might actually simply be Windows updates working on files coming and going - and once the files are where they have to be, there are often a fair amount of settings & Registry entries to take care of.

You can speed up the process by manually visiting Windows Update, and if nothing is currently waiting to install - click "Check for updates" & then click "Install now" when they are ready (or let Windows install them overnight - usually the default is around 3 a.m.)

You can also visit Windows Update & click "View update history" ... to see if any updates are failing, and trying to install over & over. If so, let us know & we can help with that (you'll likely need to visit the Microsoft Update Catalog site & download the standalone installers).
