My PC is acting very strange

Hello,

So, my PC has been driving me insane lately and for the first time ever, i cannot find a fix for it.
Let's say, today i have downloaded some new programs and files, everything is okay and when I'm done using my PC for the day i shut it down right? So the next day when i turn my PC back on, everything that i did "yesterday" is gone! The programs, the files....it seems as if it had restored back to an earlier time where those programs and files never existed yet (even uninstalled programs appear again like its stuck on some random day no matter what i do). Same thing happens when i restart. Ive done a lot of research regarding it and read something about the cause behind it is being a temporary user? (which I'm sure I'm not as I'm the only user and admin of my PC and it used to work perfectly fine) Can someone please tell me what's causing this? And also i cannot update my Windows! I get this message "Something went wrong. Try to open Settings later." and troubleshooter isn't helping at all.

Please help me 😭

Thank you.
And if you meant having my files backed up..yes. Unless its regarding something else that i have to do?

Hello, Crystald3w.

Let's look at the contents of the user profile list in the registry. This will give us more information about what is happening.

  • Press Windows icon on your Desktop, together with the letter R.
  • Type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run Command Prompt as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following command line and press Enter.
Code:
reg export "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" C:\Profile.txt
  • In the Search area type File Explorer and choose it from the items appeared.
  • In the address area type C:\Profile.txt and press Enter.
  • From the list, choose C:\Profile.txt, double click to open it.
  • Select the content of the file, copy and paste it in your next reply.

Nothing unusual in the profile list.

Some things I would like to see now:

1. Your account info

Go to Settings (press the Windows logo key on the keyboard together with letter i), then Accounts. From the menu at the left choose Your Info. Please take a screenshot of what you see.

2. Users

Open File explorer (press the Windows logo key on the keyboard together with letter r, type Explorer and press Enter).
From the menu at the left choose My PC, then double click on C and then choose Users.
Please take a screenshot of what you see.

3. Users accounts from Control Panel

In the Search area type Control Panel and select it.
Select View by Large Icons and find Users accounts. Select it.
Please take a screenshot of what you see.

Here you go.

Hello and thank you.

I would like you to choose Users (2nd screenshot above) and attach a screenshot of what you see.

Also, from the 3rd screenshot, take a screenshot of what you see when you choose Manage another account.

Thank you for your time.

Here you go.

From what I see there is no temporary profile account present.

Let's see if the problem persists when you log in with the built-in administrator account.
  • Press Windows icon on your Desktop, together with the letter R.
  • Type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run Command Prompt as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following command and press Enter to execute it:
Code:
net user administrator /active:yes
  • Restart the computer, log in with this Administrator account instead of the other one you used, make some changes and see if you have the initial issue.

I did what you told me to..
After restarting my computer, i have noticed that it happened again. My chrome actually stopped working earlier so i started using IE and i have set my login details to "always remember" (for this site) and now its as if i have never used Internet Explorer that i had to re-enter my credentials. And my chrome started working again. Also, the screenshots i took earlier disappeared (it did this restoration thing again where its stuck restoring my pc to a certain day) And i still cannot update my windows as you can see from the screenshot.

If you correctly signed in using the Administrator account, you won't see the screenshots at the same place you had them before, when you were signed in as Ayesha. It is a new account, therefore it has nothing in it.

Make sure that you are signed in using the Administrator account. Create some folders/files and restart. Is the problem still there?

I have no other account besides Ayesha which is the Administrator account. It automatically logs me in without giving me any other option to choose from.
And yes the problem persists, unfortunately.

If you correctly followed the instructions in post #10, then you have the choice to sign in with the built in Administrator account.

Did you follow those steps?

If no, please do that.

If yes, when you restart the computer what are the sign in options? Don't you have a choice among Ayesha and Administrator?

I have tried the process again and I must have misread it the first time. Just noticed the System Error / Access Denied.

Another way to open an elevated command prompt:

Click the start button, type cmd, then click the CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER simultaneously. A command prompt will open as Administrator.

Edit: Sorry @DR M I missed where you posted this exact instruction in post#10.:-)

Right!...thats what i did the first time and nothing changed. Now i did it again for the second time in elevated mode and it showed "Successful".
Restarted my PC and now im stuck here.
Choosing "Continue" got me stuck on a loop. So i chose to turn off my PC and back on, i got the Recovery screen which still brings me back to the same options.
Using my phone right now :(
Should i go for Troubleshoot?

Let's see the result.
