The
Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) is updated monthly with new malware detections – so far this year we have added 29 malware families. This month we are updating our detections for some of the malware families already included in the tool.
We choose the malware families we add to the MSRT each month using several criteria. One of the most common reasons is the prevalence of a family in the malware ecosystem. For example, in recent months we focused on file-encrypting
ransomware threats. This is due to prevalence and the impact that ransomware can have in enterprise and home user environments. Since January, we added the following ransomware families to the MSRT:
The MSRT has remediated these threats on almost 24,000 machines.
