[SOLVED] MS SQL SRVR 2008 SP3 Update KB2546951 Fails Error Code 8007002

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. If you still need assistance please let me know about the following.

I noticed in your CBS log references to the following. This references Windows 7 but you mentioned that this is a Server 2008 R2 server. Can you confirm?
Code:
2015-06-21 10:05:26, Error CBS Failed to check whether package is partially installed, package: Windows7SP1-KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

Thanks for the confirmation. Please download SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 from here and save to your desktop.

Please try to install it. If it fails, please do the following.

Collect Logs
Log files are created in a new timestamped log folder. The log folder is located at %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\. The time-stamped log folder name is in the format YYYYMMDD_hhmmss. Can you zip up the folder and send along?

Thank you.

Please do the following.

Mini Toolbox
1. Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
2. Check list installed programs and click Go.
3. Notepad will open with the log once it completes. Post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Never tried on Server 2008 before...sorry. This should work.

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

It shows that you already have SP3 installed.

Code:
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 (KB2546951) (HKLM-x32\...\KB2546951) (Version: 10.3.5500.0 - Microsoft Corporation)

I assume you are being prompted to install this through Windows Updates? If so, please try to go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008.

Got an error trying to run the uninstall. It's almost as if there are different versions of SQL installed or it's looking for 1 version and reporting a different version.

No, there is no repair option. I don't have Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (64-bit), just Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 (KB2546951)

I did get the update you requested installed and rebooted but it still wants KB2546951 to install and it fails with Error code 84B30002.

That I couldn't answer, I didn't build/manage until about 6 months ago and my boss is gone for the next week. But with the weird errors and what its looking for I would assume so. Is there anything that can be done?

At this point it's not directly a Windows Update issue. This appears to be SQL Server/Install related. Here are the options.

1. We can hide the update so your not prompted for it since we know you don't have SQL Server 2008 (you have 2008 R2).
2. You can try removing all of the SQL Server stuff (some will likely have to be manually removed through the registry and manually deleting files). Then reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2 from scratch.

Is there a way to hide it from my WSUS server so the update doesn't show as failed in my reports?
