I save MP3 files from a podcast to a micro SD card in my old Moto E2 cellphone which I listen to on my daily commute. I renamed all files as a-, b-, c- according to the date they were recorded so that I'm listening to them in sequential order. When I look at the files using Google Files they appear in this order. However, when I open them in Google Play Music in order to listen to them, they appear in random order and show the title of the lecture, not the filename. The other app I use to listen to MP3 files is a no-frills freebie called Musicolet. I normally use it for the user-friendly interface. Musicolet has an option to sort the files by title or filename. But even with File name-descending selected, the files appear randomly with the title only, not in a, b, c order like I see them in Google Files. Apparently the player apps are not seeing the filename, but rather the title of the lecture, and sort them randomly. I looked at the settings of my app and in the phone, and don't see an option to force the app to sort and play in order by filename. Any ideas?

You should also be able to add track numbers which the music player can then sort by. -Stephen

Use 001 instead of 1, if you have under 1,000 songs on the sd card. If you simply use 1 it will play 1, 10, 11, etc. before it plays 2, 20, 21..
