Hello guys,

This part of the forum seems to me very interesting, but at the same time I think we are missing valuable information for safe and private use of the Internet.

My favorite browser is Mozilla Firefox ... although lately I use [Waterfox] which is x64 Firefox based browser.

So... let's go straight to the point... Mozilla browsers are very strong and safe because of the available addons... there are plenty of them but there are few which I can say "You must have it" and not use the Internet without them. They are very strong and honestly it didn't affect on my browsing speed a lot... which is a very good behavior.

Following addons mainly are designed for Firefox, but there are parallel versions for Google Chrome/Opera etc... in case if Firefox is not your favorite browser

This is my favorite list for more secure browsing:

  • [NoScript] is maybe the best security addon... without doubt. I am using this addon for a long, long time and there is a way of differences when you are opening web pages (streaming sites, web shoping, etc...). The main power of this addon is that the user can choose which script to be shown on his browser and the other ones are blocked which are dangerous for XSS and Clickjacking attacks.
  • [AdBlockPlus] is maybe the most famous addon... also it is very strong. It blocks all annoying ads.
  • [Disconnect] can protect you from tracking... you can use this addon with combination of other addons like AdBlockPlus. Also do NOT use "Ghostery" which is far, far behind and can affect the speed of browsing and also it has some privacy issues. "Disconnect" is very powerful and you can get more speed on your Firefox while opening pages.
  • [Lazarus] is not a privacy addon but it is very strong. Since you are reading this post on a forum, this addon saves your post locally just in case your sessions has expired and not to be worried about to write the same (some other times more long) post... you can easily restore the last time saving and you can continue with your writing. Very, very useful when you are writing something on a web form.
  • [X-notifier] is email checking... very good... it works with a lot of webmail (Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail...).
  • [Self-Destructing Cookies] is addon to get rid of all third parties cookies which can be stored on your computer and can be used for tracking you. If you are using this addon with combination with X-notifier you should also read the forum of X-notifier to setup this addon correctly... there is one issue but it can be solved very easy.

So... i tried not to be very long on the descriptions and also I want you to leave more and more space to discover from yourself. Do you use addons for Mozilla Firefox? What are their capabilities? You can continue this thread and to share valuable information's about more secure and fast browsing... it would be very nice.

Thanks for reading this post and I hope you like it...

I knew this was what was going to be sourced.

It's not hidden information, it's said right in Ghostery's FAQ:

How do you make money?

We rely on Ghostery users who opt-in to participate in a feature called Ghostrank, which sends us anonymous information about the data collection technology they see, and where they see them. We take that information, add our analysis, and sell it to companies to help them audit and manage their relationships with these marketing tools. None of the information we share is about our users nor is it stored in a way that could be used to trace back to our users. Ghostrank is off by default, meaning you can use Ghostery without sharing anything with us if you'd prefer. (But please opt-in. It is how we keep Ghostery free and continue to make it the best tool out there!)

And as also said in an AMA quite some time ago:

Ghostery is supported by Ghostrank, our 100% opt-in feature that collects information about the trackers you see and the sites on which you see them. Our parent company, Evidon, packages that information and sells it back to sites who use it for privacy, performance, and security audits; and also ad tech companies who use it for competitive intelligence about each other.

That information is totally anonymous - it's all intelligence about the tracking industry, none about our users. And Ghostery works exactly the same whether you choose to share that with us or not.
We hope you'll opt-in, but we're committed to delivering a good product for user transparency whether you choose to or not.

It's not enabled by default, therefore you are up against no privacy issues whatsoever.

Regarding the slowness, it's because Ghostery scans page elements. You can disable that as well by blocking page scripts.

Still i DO NOT trust "Ghostery" for using this addon...

Also you should read all the link sources above very careful... i think there is a lot of stories around them which makes me wondering...
