With help from Digerati on this forum, I figured out my mother's HP had a fried motherboard. The replacement arrived today, a refurb Dell with Win10, and I installed a utility Bill recommended to restore much of the Win7 gui she is accustomed to.
I'm hoping the HD in the old HP is OK and want to retrieve most her files. I think SATA cables are standardized, and not sure about the power connectors. Any tips before I try energize the old HD to and let the new PC talk to it? Both are SFF small form factor; tight quarters.
